I must say Mr. Oliver is quite a salesman. I entered the restaurant as a first time customer and as I browsed the menu, I was sold on the soup that was prepared for the day. I agreed to sit in the restaurant and try the soup and whatever else I decided on, I would take out. The soup was brought out to me and on the plate that the bowl was on was a strand of hair. I was quite turned off by this. As I sat there contemplating whether I'll taste this soup that Mr. Oliver raved about there it was, another strand of hair on the table. I was so disappointed and grossed out but still tried the soup. The soup was tasteless and bland and from the looks of things, thrown together. As a child of Caribbean parents, one of which is Jamaican, I am aware of what Jamaican food should taste like. Also, being originally from NJ where there are Jamaican restaurants all over, my expectations were high. There were chicken patties with coco bread being advertised however, no chicken patties available because "it's not a popular item." Even with all the disappointments, I still decided to support the business and got an oxtail dinner to go. I wasn't asked about the size and was given a large for about $30. I got home and opened the oxtail dinner to find 4 pieces of oxtail swimming in oil, not gravy, and the cabbage looked old as if it was leftovers for a few days. I tasted the oxtail despite the horrible presentation and meat smelled raw as if it wasn't properly cleaned or cleaned at all. Also, it was bland... no seasoning whatsoever and tough to say the least. I can tell it was thrown together. Who's tastebuds is Mobay Restaurant trying to cater to??? THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN FOOD... and should not be advertised as such. Please clean the meat and season it and maybe try cooking the oxtail in a pressure cooker from the night before. I was totally disappointed as I threw out a $30 oxtail dinner without barely touching it. And no gravy on the rice and peas?!?! Oh man!! First and last visit of course. Too overpriced and not...
Read moreI hate to leave this review but I must warn others of this salesman’s tactics. I went for the first time yesterday and ordered curry chicken, rice & peas, and Mac & cheese. I was so excited when I saw festival on the menu. The salesman hyped it up and even offered to sell it to me at a discount price. He mentioned that they’re some of his best sellers and they’re usually sold out despite there being at least half a dozen on display (I should’ve known right then that something wasn’t right). I got home and took a bite and when I tell you I almost broke my tooth! They were hard as a rock! It felt like I was biting into a hard pretzel. I should’ve known because he even told me that he hadn’t even heard of festival until a few years ago and someone had to tell him how to make it. Festival is supposed to have a crispy exterior but soft and doughy on the inside. Never will I order them again from this restaurant and I don’t know if I’ll ever be back. Also, I noticed that after he made my plate, he went in the back and put it into some type of heating device (sounded like a microwave) which lets me know that the food is just sitting out and not being kept warm. The curry chicken barely had any sauce on it and the rice & peas were dry. The mac & cheese was decent. Judging by other’s reviews, it seems like he will say anything to sell his food. Overall, my experience was...
Read moreThis place has to do better! I order through Grub Hub from this establishment. Here are the issues I faced. 1.Jerk chicken was old like it has been sitting out for days, the skin was soggy and underneath the skin the meat was dried out. An effect from sitting out for a long period of time. Beef patty with was dried and hard definitely was old as well from sitting out for am extended period of time. It was no cheese in the patty. Coco bread was dried and hard. Definitely old and was microwaved at some point. Coco bread is a very soft bread that can be pulled apart easily, not this it was hard as a rock. Sides I ordered was cabbage and fried plantains. What i got was cabbage and rice and peas. Guess what? The rice and peas were dried and old as well eventhough I clearly didn't order them. Drinks: I ordered a Calypso Kiwi Strawberry. What I got was a Kola Champagne. How do you screw that up? My stomach has been upset since I ordered on 1/31/25. I forgot to take a picture as I was disgusted that a restaurant would sell old food. I threw it away for y'all, because that food should never left the restaurant. Definitely a rip off of Jamaican culture. Disgusting business practices....
