I'm giving three stars rather than less because we used to frequent Mother's North very frequently and it was always spot on, but haven't been as often recently... But the other night left a bad taste in our mouth and probably would be 1 star if we didn't come so often. They run a bogo burger deal on Tuesdays which we have always been a fan of, and they also have a "free crab dip with every 9 points earned" deal. Since we came a lot, we would often have free crab dips from time to time. We started only coming on Tuesdays because it fit within our schedules the best, and the bogo burger deal was pretty nice. There have been countless times that we've ordered both the burgers and crab dip deals together and have never had a problem. We often get alcohol and other add-ons as well because we don't mind paying for it (and we always tip on the original amount before discounts). However, this last time we went we were told AFTER our food was ordered and eaten that the crab dip deal and burger deal could not be stacked. We found that odd, considering we've done it every single time in the past. The waitress told us that she spoke to the manager and he assured her that this was a rule, even though this has never happened before. After a bit of time we asked to speak with him because we weren't offered to speak with him. Before he even got to our table he was already talking, asking us how we were and then immediately started explaining himself, which we all thought was a little rude. He spoke pretty loudly and confidently, almost condescendingly, as if he knew he was right and didn't want to hear our side at all. We all just shut up because it was apparent that we wouldn't be getting a word in at this point. He ended up saying that they would honor the deal because "that's what you were expecting and should have been told otherwise", asked if that was okay, and left. Very strange way of business, especially to repeat customers. All in all the experience the other night has made me not want to go back for a while, which is a shame because it used to be our go to...
Read moreWe went today for a late lunch/early dinner. I wasn't sure what to expect as it was our first time dining at this restaurant, but I wish it had been a better experience. Our food took so long to come out. Everything from drinks, appetizers, and our meal. There was no one in the restaurant. There were a couple people at the bar but that was it. It wasn't busy at all. We ordered crab dip, a small side salad and wings for appetizers; it took about 25-30 minutes for it to come out. The lettuce in my salad was wilted. The manager was very sweet, offered me another salad and I politely declined.
Our actual meals took even longer to come out and we didn't get our food until after 5 pm. We arrived at around 3:30 We were sitting for a long time with just drinks. Luckily for us, we have a baby, so we were distracted by him most of the time, but there was a point where we looked at each other and wondered where the food was. My husband enjoyed his food, which I'm glad. He loved everything he ordered. Expect the crab dip. It wasn't good. Our first order came out luke warm, it wasn't hot. We sent it back. Second order was better; it was hot but the crab dip just wasn't that great. It was okay. Definitely not enough crab meat. The wings were very delicious. Probably the best of all the food we received. I ordered the meatloaf and garlic potatoes. Meatloaf was just okay, and garlic potatoes were delicious. I also ordered broccoli and it was so hard, I could barely bite into it. I couldn't eat it at all.
I would say that I'm not going back to this establishment BUT the manager was the saving grace, and the reason why I'm giving 3 stars is not 1. He was very caring, came back multiple times to make sure we were alright. He really tried his best to make things right, and I greatly appreciated that. So I think we will give it another try. I'll just order something different the next time around, and I don't think I'll order the crab dip, or...
Read moreMy sister's and I went to Mother's for the first time as part of Baltimore County Restaurant Week. The menu for the week looked pretty good but we were so disappointed. The first sign was the mango moscow mule. It had no mango flavor even with mango floating on top. The vodka was supposed to be infused with mango and still nothing. Also, no sign of ginger beer which is the main ingredient in a Moscow mule. It just tasted like seltzer water. I ordered the crab dip and pitas for the first course. There was an issue with the dip on a pita that looked like it was taken from someone's leftover dish. The manager came out and explained the process which helped ease our minds but he also seemed defensive. The carbonara risotto with "prosciutto" and lump crab meat came out next. It was underwhelming. The risotto was a bit too al dente and the sauce was more runny than creamy. It didn't taste good at all. I couldn't understand how something with "prosciutto" and crab had no taste. There was no salt nor cheese. The grilled chicken was bland and dry. I was so beyond disappointed because this was the main dish in the 3 course meal and it tanked badly. There was also a not so good odor to the dish that we couldn't pinpoint. Needless to say we didn't finish it. The last meal was dessert and I ordered the bread pudding beignets. They were absolutely delicious. I'd go back just for this dessert. The only minor problem was that it was a bit cold on the inside but the pudding itself was cooked well and the fried dough on the outside was nice and crunchy. I would get this with ice cream next time. I give this place 3 stars because the staff was great and the dessert...
