Wow, what a disaster. Went in on a Sunday afternoon (yesterday) to buy treats or a cake for a dinner group I was hosting that night. The counter server was very pleasant and helpful, and I left with a small cake (supposedly cappuccino) and a few pastries.
When I returned home I tried one of the three pastries (a chocolate chip cookie).....it was stale, so I was worried about the cake and took a tiny tip off the frosting to taste it. IT WAS HORRIBLY STALE AND TASTED LIKE FREEZER BURN!!! I still brought it out at dinner and my guests pointed out you could see the cake was old from the color and hardness of the frosting, but we tried to eat it anyway. It tasted DISGUSTING, both stale and with an off, old taste to it, and we threw the entire cake away after no more than one bite each.
This morning I tried to call the bakery (at 10:30am) to let the owners know, more as a help since I am not going back there again, and I was put on hold until a man came on the phone and rudely told me I would have to call back at 7pm to speak to a manager or owner. SINCE THEY CLOSE AT 6 PM THIS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE, and he was obviously being a 100% obnoxious jerk and would not even let me speak to anyone in charge, although I meant to be helpful at that time. When I told him they would be closed and I would just post a review, he said 'fine' and slammed the phone down.
Since clearly they did not care one bit about a potential customer issue, or the quality of their product, I feel very comfortable telling everyone what a terrible place it was and that I would recommend STAYING FAR AWAY from there and NEVER BUYING THIR PASTRIES AND CAKES!!!!!!!!! I see other reviews have had bad pastry experiences there too so YOU HAVE...
Read moreIt’s sad that I have to leave this review. I have had great experience with this place, best croissants in town and cakes too. Until today. My husband got me a mini chocolate mousse cake last week and it was bad, bad in the sense tasted sour, gone bad, rancid. Too late since I didn’t expect a freshly bought cake to go bad, that one bite I swallowed made me sick. I ended up being sick for days after that. Threw it immediately in garbage and Ofcorse made a video, showed it to my husband who in turn took it to the place to show them and complain. Guess what. Instead of owning to their mistake or apologizing, even acknowledging and accepting it the girl on the counter was like okay, so ? Like seriously “so” ??!! Staff : So it was bad ? Customer : Yes. Staff: And you said it tasted rancid? Customer : Yes. Staff: Your wife was sick? Customer : Yes, for days. Staff: shrugs So ?? Customer : ??? Staff : Okay, do you want another one? It’s gonna be 7.50$ Customer : No Thankyou. Walks out.
I asked my husband why didn’t he talk to the manager, and was told he wasn’t there. Only some young girl at the counter. Why wouldn’t you take accountability? And not just that. Just don’t work in a place if you know nothing about dealing with stuff like these. Never going to give this place our business again. We had always recommended the bakery to friends and family, Infact it was our go to place every weekend. Sadly this incident and the insensitive staff made the whole experience “rancid” for us...
Read moreI have a few favorite here: their Red Velvet Cupcake!!!
Though a tad pricey, this bakery elevates the food options in downtown Wheaton. The chocolate croissant is impressive. The bread has a great bite, it's flakey but not too crispy, it didn't taste stale at all, and it has a nice buttery aftertaste, and the chocolate inside is sweet and is a good size for a hefty croissant shell. It's the best item that I've had there. I always worry that bigger pastries sacrifice flavor, ex. Costco croissants.
Oh and I loved the cheese and blueberry filling of the Danish, but I wish the bread was softer.
I have had several pastries: tres leches, tiramisu, chocolate croissant, opera cake, and one kind of coffee: cortado.
Their coffee has been good every time. Still a pricy but your only other option in this area is Starbucks in Safeway off Georgia. I'll take Oh La La instead!
Their tres leches wasn't very good. And their tiramisu was a little too mushy for my taste. It's a shame because that's my favorite dessert. However, their opera cake was nice and the chocolate mousse is very nice. Their mango mousse lacks moisture and creaminess in the mousse layer, but has a delightful fruit flavor and smell, and I enjoyed the gelatin layer...
