Until tonight - Sept 27 - my experience at The Pikes had been good to very good overall. The steamed crabs had always been full, tasty, and the expected size. This time it was a bust except for the taste. The tray of crabs was NOT the Jumbo size we pre-ordered - they were mostly medium with a few large mixed in and barely warm (leftover maybe?). It turns out that a table across the room next to the window got our order and THE STAFF ADMITTEDLY TRIED TO PASS OFF THE "JANKY" CRABS (THE OTHER TABLE HAD ORDERED) AS THE JUMBOS WE HAD ORDERED. It was almost torture watching the other patrons eat our order of steamed crabs, all of which appeared to be almost double the size of ours. Had we not said anything and not known any better about the sizing of crabs, they would have been content with overcharging and short-changing us. When challenged, they tried to convince us that they served us XL - NOT! They thought they were 'doing something' by adding 4-supposedly large crabs to the order (actually mediums) and reducing the bill by $10. Nothing could have made up for the "trickeration" they were trying to pull after switching our order with another table - WHERE THEY DO THAT AT? The mistake we made was eating the first one - We should have just walked out without touching them. But we were fiending for some steamed crabs. I don't know if the owner is in on the scam or if the "manager" might just be pocketing the money away from the owner, but this is not a way to run a reputable business!!
To address the restaurant's response ... YOU WANNA TALK 'LOW ROAD' ... Your position here will never be right - there was an opportunity to address this situation by bringing up the mistake on your own, without prompting from us. WE had to bring up the wrong size (20+ minutes into the meal, after we could get to the waitress), otherwise there would have been no attempt at an accommodation & there would have been no admission about the mishap ... Somehow, the staff thought we wouldn't know any better. It's unfortunate, but I believe Scam and Trickeration might be charitable descriptors in this case. And, like I said, the taste was fine - the...
Read moreNegative would be more appropriate .During my late Tuesday afternoon solo dining experience, things took a turn in a really bad way. S/O to the server Dylon. However, while eatting 2 men walked up to me. One of the men said that's my booth. I assumed he was joking so I said soon you can have hit. The 2 older men walked away but STOOD a few feet away staring at me. Since I was there by myself, I asked one of the servers for a manager. A manager who didn't stated his name came to where I was sitting. I informed him of what took placed and stated I feel uncomfortable. The manager offered to by my a drink, I told him I don't drink. He saw I had 2 untouched crabs on my table and said he let him buy the 2 crabs( the 2 crabs were alredy being taken off my bill b4 he came)and move me to another table even thought I had been comfortable sitting where I choose to seat ( customers pick there seat). I told the manager what about those guys standing there. He said they were coming to do repairs to the rips in cushions. The 2 men had NO EQUIPMENT ( nothing that ID them as a repair company they were casually dressed) there was never once any mentioned such repairs persons stopping by where I was seated. The manager left and I remainded seated. Moments later the 2 guys walked back over and pulled out a measuring tap. I got up went to the bar and asked for the manager again. My server Dylon had provided me with a FULL bill. For the inconvenience I experienced, Dylon and Mya( shift manager who i spoke with 2nd)ONLY apologized for what happened. As a female dining alone to have been cut short of my dining which was no fault of mine due to some nonsense is just tacky.. NEVER ONCE was I made aware of any service going to be done and then inconvenienceing me by the 1st male manger saying he can move me is the most unpleasant experience of all. The was no sort of compromise ( COMP THE BILL, GIVE A CREDIT, GIVE 3/4/5/6 CASINO CHIPS ..SOMETHING) and to add insult to injury the 2 older men actually dined in with some other men. Not one time did they do ANY REPAIRS Or FIXINGS to the seat once I got up. TRULY Unbelievable...
Read moreI recently went to Pikes with some coworkers and we had an awful experience. We had crabs and drinks and we thought things were fine. We had a large party and spent 500.00 there, however two of my coworkers were chased out into the parking lot by our server because we gave him a 75.00 tip and he wanted 78.00 because that was the percentage he felt was owed. Upon calling and filing a complaint, no one ever returned the call and when we had plans to return and asked if we could have a different server, the owner/manager Will was very nasty and told not to come back and he was awful to us. We are black. Will and the server are white and we really feel like we were racially profiled. I will never ever return. I am disappointed because I was under the impression pikes was recently purchased by two black men and wanted to support.
Joe, Green! I see the response from the owner and it further shows how nasty you and the people who work at your establishment are. The restaurant is in no way related to the black owners of the Movie theater. I am so happy to know that. I hope that because of the horrible attitude within the restaurant, the new owners of the theater aren't affected. We were never asked not to return. That is a lie. The facts, I posted originally are true and you are upset I have stated them here and fear of losing customers. You will because, we will let everyone in Maryland we come into contact with what our experience was. Corinthians in Woodlawn has better crabs anyway. I have never ever been questioned about gratuity at any restaurant and I have never been upset about paying it. No owner of any establishment should treat customers in such terrible manner. Your goal should be to have customers return. You're business won't...
