Probably the worst ice cream experience I’ve ever had. Disappointing that it played out that way. We were so excited to try this spot out and ordered a small milkshake ($5 w/ 2 free toppings ) and an ice cream sandwich ($3) and asked for sprinkles on the sandwich. The employee told us they were pre-made, so that wasn’t possible. We then asked if we could just get sprinkles on the side instead, which seemed like a simple request… a reasonable alternative. At first he wasn’t sure if he could and then someone in the back gave him a price / approval to let us have the sprinkles on the SIDE.
When we paid, we noticed our total was higher than expected. We didn’t receive a receipt (they just wrote it on a piece of paper that they kept), but it was clear we had been charged an additional $3.
$3+$5=8 and our total was almost $12.
What we thought was an innocent mistake was actually intentional. When I asked the owner about the extra unknown charge, she explained that she “chooses” to charge $3 for sprinkles/any topping on the side because “this isn’t a candy shop.” That explanation doesn’t make sense when the exact same sprinkles are already offered as standard toppings on their other products.. also sprinkles at a candy shop? Lol
Anyways— nothing was communicated about this beforehand, and there’s no sign anywhere showing that price for sprinkles. For comparison, sprinkles are FREE on milkshakes here and only $0.40 on the soft serve cones, so it didn’t even occur to us that the same sprinkles would suddenly cost $3.
In the end, we spent nearly $12 for one very small milkshake and an equally small ice cream sandwich, plus an unlisted charge for a side of sprinkles since the sandwich is premade. The charge was never shared before. The ice cream itself was nothing more than average soft serve. Shops like Jimmy Cone nearby not only offer better value and flavor, but also treat their customers with respect and transparency.
Also… I love soft serve for the fun summer experience and it’s hard to have a positive experience in a situation like this—the more you think about it the...
Read moreAmazing! Great little ice cream shop in my neighborhood. We stopped by because I knew there were new businesses there, and saw this creamery.
First, the positives. Full menu is displayed. Window service only. Cash, which to me as a small business owner, is all they accept. That helps keep prices low. They also have a nice shared courtyard and the tables are socially distance friendly. Staff is extremely friendly and courteous and service is quick. Prices are extremely reasonable.
Now, the negatives...none. I'm pretty hard on places that don't have good customer service. And add to it that my high school job was at a Carvel Ice Cream store, so I know what customers should expect. I am definitely adding this place to our list of...
Read morePros: Outdoor seating Service with a smile (seems to be rare in Urbana) Reasonably priced, but there are cheaper options at the FSK mall.
Cons: Accept cash only Odd hours. The pediatrician is located next doors, so they could be selling more if they were open earlier. That's just my opinion. Plus, I don't want to treat my kid to ice cream in the evening, because he'll be bouncing off the walls. When we went they served the ice cream on top of the spoon. This made the ice cream very difficult to eat for my 2-year-old. Essentially we had to topple it over. A spoon on the side would have been...
