The Red Bandana Bakery — Restaurant in Maryland

I took my mom, who has Celiac's, for her birthday. We live in White Marsh, so it was quite the drive. We visited it based on a recommendation from several people. Also, we have been to two other dedicated GF bakeries and enjoyed those very much. I wanted to surpise her with a new place.

Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed in everything except the garlic roll, which was okay.

The chocolate chip cookies were very oily. Neither of us could finish them. We also tried the brownies which were very thin before we warmed then, then completely collapsed and flatened into a greasy mess after warmed. The brownie was mostly edible for me, but my mother didn't finish hers.

Next was the banana chocolate chip muffins. The woman, who we assumed was the owner, was nice because she gave gave us two of the muffins because she said that they turned out small. Those felt dense, as a lot of GF baked goods do, so I didn't think anything of it. We go to eat the muffins and they are not only super dense, but also severely undercooked. It tasted like we were eating tough undercooked banana bread. I ate less than half of one before I couldn't eat any more.

Next, another customer recommended that their challah bread and said it was divine with a sandwich. Knowing that we had a few places to stop before heading home, we decided to also purchase sandwiches to go. The young lady that took our custom sandwich orders, ended ended up having to take our order three times because she didn't seem to know how to operate the register with the customizations. We were very patient as she had to take our order for a third time, (we figured that she was likely a new employee). I said my order again only to be told they were out of sprouts. The other woman, again who we assumed was the owner, asked us if we wanted her to run out and get sprouts, although it was only a couple of hours after they had opened. We said that we did. She got the sprouts, which was very kind. It did take a little longer to get our sandwiches, but again we were patient with everything and they worked as quickly as possible.

Later when we were ready to dig into our sandwiches, we bit into the extremely dry challah bread. The other ingredients on the sandwich were good, but the bread; while way more fluffy than the other things we had, was extremely dry (even with having spreads, sprouts, tomatoes, and lettuce on the sandwich AND having the sandwich toasted). We ate most of the sandwich but left half of the bread.

Lastly, we also purchased a garlic roll which was also a little dry but way better and softer than the challah bread. I have made GF, vegan bread rolls from scratch, at home, and this still wasn't as good. Even then, it was literally the only thing that I finished eating. My mom refused to try it after being disappointed by the sandwich, cookies, and brownie.

I understand that GF baking, especially GF, vegan baking, can be extremely difficult. I want to chalk it up to being an off day for them. However, the reason we purchased several different things was not only for the variety, but also to be able to try several different options in the off chance that we didn't like something (or if it happened to be a bad day for something). But everything we ordered was extremely disappointing. I would easily find this acceptable for a regular bakery that happens to have GF, vegan options, but a bakery specifically dedicated to GF shouldn't have been this horrible.

Honestly, the only redeeming thing was that we walked away only paying half of what we usually spend in other bakeries, as they were extremely affordable. But I wished we would have paid the $60 we usually spend in GF bakeries for a much higher, edible,...

Kudos to the Red Bandana Bakery! Once again, Jamie and her team “knocked it out of the ballpark” with crème filled vanilla cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla frosting on top WITH the most awesome decoration for the DC Public Library 5-Minute Horror Film Festival!! And yes, I will brag that EVERYONE thought the cupcakes were really good tasting, moist with flavour and AWESOME horror theme decorations.-in fact folks could not believe they were gluten-free . Too add, it was not just me, but many folks at the event had issues with gluten and were beyond ecstatic they too could partake consumption of these cupcakes!! That is why I return to this bakery time and time again (okay more like frequently to be honest) and highly recommend it with total confidence!!! On another note, whatever idea you have in mind for cake, cookie or even cupcake decorations, the Red Bandana helps bring it to fruition with flying colors! Wunderbar! Bravo! Magnifico! Bar none this baker makes THE BEST gluten -free cupcakes I have ever tasted. My obsession and love of turtles manifested itself on to my birthday cupcakes! Aren’t these the cutest little turtles you’ve ever seen? Too add, the cupcakes were absolutely delicious as always-how does Red Bandana Bakery manage to create an addictive vanilla cupcake that is gluten with vegan frosting that is so mouthwatering, and so light-goes great with any kind of milk!! I said it once and I will say it again, Red Bandana is the best gluten-free bakery ever!!! Why go anywhere else? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And once again this bakery hit a home run with a delicious cupcake for my sister-in-laws' 60th Birthday with a Snoopy theme! She was totally in surprise by the Snoopy details on each cupcake and happily in Heaven with the taste! In her owns words, "I have never seen Snoopy on a cupcake, and each cupcake had him in different poses, this was totally amazing And I might add a delicious cupcake!....Thanks Jamie and staff for making her day special!! Red Bandana Bakery makes the ultimate carrot cake-the best on this planet!

Unlike other gluten-free carrot cakes, which I have tasted before, which have been too heavy, too bland, too sweet, awful frosting the Red Bandana Bakery has created by far a gluten-free carrot cake that should be featured on the Food Network] Who knew that me asking for them to make a carrot cake without nuts with buttercream frosting would end up testing, so good I end up ordering another one under the guise of an excuse to honor a loved ones birthday🙏🏿🥹🎂😎🙏🏿😇🥰🥰

I am not sure how they do it, but it’s like magic! And the design was perfect! I asked for sin flowers and creatively they created some flowers using buttercream.(oh my gosh, some flowers from delicious!

Gluten-free is definitely the way to go in if I’m going to have a gluten-free cake, cupcake or any other product definitely this is a place to go.

I’m already thinking of ideas for my birthday in June!!

The owner /operator Jaimie Mertz is the nicest, most professional, friendly and courteous person to interact with – every year when they come to her to create cupcakes or carrot cakes, she somehow imagines the most creative way to bring decorations and something to eat to suction of a level I feel very sad to even eat the item – as you know from this cake photos!

PS she even created me made cupcakes for me with Gnomes on them for my birthday one year!!

It’s time for Red Bandana Bakery to get a...

CREATIVELY DELICIOUS - THESE CUPCAKE DESIGNS WERE A HIT AT THE DC PUBLIC LIBRARY INAUGURAL HORROR FILM FESTIVAL! Oh my gosh, I was totally blown away! When I decided to order some cupcakes to boost up the ambience of my comedy-horror film, one of six feature films at this event, I had no idea of what suggested designed to give or even the colors for the 36 cupcakes. When I picked up the cupcakes and saw how creatively Red Bandana Bakery, put on there “MAGIC ARTIST HAT” and somehow managed to think of a way to decorate the cupcakes to reflect not just a theme of the event, but also reflective of the poster advertisement For this film festival, I along with all other attendees were left speechless. How do they do it? Who knew that the gluten-free cupcake could be created with vegan frosting that taste absolutely delicious – everyone was blown away that the cupcakes were gluten-free with vegan frosting. I continue to have peace of mind that when I ask for something to be creative and don’t not have any ideas of the direction of it this cake or cupcake Jaime and her crew come together and create a product that leaves your stomach, happily satisfied with peace of mind that what you are eating is gluten-free and even has vegan frosting! KUDOS RED BANDANA! 🥳♥️🙌🏿😃🥰

………………………………………………………….. Mouthwatering, delicious, addictive, and has never failed me yet! It’s this time of year, I always get a cake or cupcakes for my partner’s birthday- this time I tried the carrot cake with the traditional buttercream frosting (without milk ) versus the vegan which I usually get… oh my gosh-I’m not ashamed to I had a “Hallelujah” moment as I savored every bite from beginning to end –it as good was just as good as the vegan ♥️😊🙌🏿.

To add, I want it sunflowers and giraffes on the cupcakes – I don’t know what magical fairy dust Jamie uses to make her creations come to fruition from your vision/mine to on a cupcake exactly do you want it?- aren’t these sun flowers and giraffes so adorable? I will honestly admit. I think Red Bandana has the best gluten-free bake goods I have ever tasted to date. I’m not gonna lie. I’ve tasted a lot of gluten-free baked goods all around this countryy, and I can honestly say From perspective from a native New Yorker that Red Bandanna has the gluten-free carrot cake, or cupcake I have tasted to date; heck, even the cupcakes of other flavors!!! have never been disappointed in all these years 🥳I do try to discipline myself when buying any baked goods from here and I at attempt to freeze (They freeze), but I’ll admit they don’t last long because they are sooo good!! It’s such a great feeling knowing that I can go somewhere and get something sweet to eat or even if I a slice of gluten-free-vegan pizza be happily satisfy way to go Red...
