Some of the food is good (nachos), most of it is ok, and some of it is just plain bad (baked beans). But the reason for the 1-star review is the rude service. Since I had had a couple good takeout experiences there, I decided to order catering for a party. I wasn’t sure what to get, though, so my family & I went to dine in to try some more food (service was slow & unfriendly, but that's beside the point). We ordered ribs, quesadilla, baked potato, kids meal, burrito, & 3 sides. There were a couple more things we were considering ordering for catering (coleslaw, green beans & brisket). We weren’t very impressed with the sides we had already ordered, so I asked for a sample of the slaw & green beans. I specifically held up a condiment-sized container, showing we only were asking for like a spoonful to taste. They brought out samples in larger containers (I was NOT expecting or asking for that size). Then, I asked if we could try the brisket, again holding up the condiment container to show what size I meant & I was in the middle of saying we did not need the larger size like they had just given us, but Maria interrupted me & said no. She said they don’t give samples & the brisket was too expensive. Mind you, we had already ordered & paid for full meals & were planning to spend hundreds of dollars on catering this weekend. We decided to go ahead with the catering, even though I was offended that they had treated us like we were some kind of moochers, because I didn’t know if we would have other options. Thankfully, I was able to find an alternative caterer, so I called Red Shed to cancel. I told Maria that I wanted to explain why we were canceling & she said “no, you don’t need to.” Then she said something about “we don’t need you here, we have a lot of people.” I said I just wanted to explain the situation (I was going to say they had misunderstood the sizes we had asked for & I was literally only asking for a spoonful of each of 3 things that we were considering ordering for catering) & Maria hung up on me in the middle of my sentence! Absolutely appalling that they would treat paying customers this way… & over a misunderstanding about a spoonful of...
Read moreBoth indoor and outdoor seating is available. The portions were generous, but not huge in proportion to the price. I got the medium size loaded Mac. It came in a styrofoam cup approximately 5 inches tall and 3.5 inches in diameter... Filled to the top. About the top 1.5-2 inches was "pulled" chicken. I ordered it without the sauce (they refer to it as"naked"). The chicken was fully cooked but not dry. It didn't have much flavor and I ended up adding sauce (they have two varieties in bottles at each table). The cavatappi Mac was slightly more done than I prefer but not pasty. The cheese sauce was thicker than soup but not grainy, pasty, or dry. There was no crust which makes sense considering the serving method. My wife had the brisket sandwich. She said it had a good flavor but was quite dry. It looked like a very lean cut, which I prefer but I've found most people prefer a higher fat content. The staff was friendly and obviously spoke Spanish as their primary language, but their English was fluent and not heavily accented. The decor wasn't anything special but seemed clean and well cared for. The only thing I really didn't like there was the water. It tasted as though it were dispensed from a garden hose. The men's room had an odd setup, but from a germ averse person's perspective, it was a little problematic. You have to pull it open to exit. They do supply paper towels in the restroom though, so at least you could use one of those between your hand...
Read moreThe Red Shed has really gone downhill in the last year. They used to be so good! The food was always delivered exceptionally fast, it tasted delicious, the self serve BBQ area and fountain drink area provided excellent customer convenience. But the owners have tried to become more of a "restaurant", and while the seating and bar areas are nice, they have sacraficed all the wonderful conveniences that made it great to begin with. The food now takes twice as long to receive. The fountain drink area is no longer accessible to customers, who must now wait for service staff to bring and refill drinks. They used to offer 4 or 5 BBQ sauces, but have cut that back to just 2 BBQ sauces and do not offer taste testing before you get it...infact they flatly denied me the ability to tast the 2 sauces...they just gave me the one they wanted and forced me to take it. I used to love that place. And though the food was good and the staff was "nice", the sevice inconveniences, and slower food delivery are are a substantial downgrade from what this place used to be. Sadly, with Leons, City Barbeque, and the Grainery all offering the same quality BBQ food at restaurant settings, we will probably not be going back to Red Shed again, unless they find a way to restore the fast, convenient, and better variety service they used to have, while still maintaining the restaurant atmosphere they are...
