My wife and I were in need of some good Mexican food while we were driving through Marysville. We used to frequent Fiesta Grande, but since it is now closed we needed something new. We drove past Tres Potrillos (which means 3 foals, or baby horses) and decided to give it a try.
We were very pleasantly surprised! The weather was nice so we sat out on their patio. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla (Fajita Quesadilla Camaron) and my wife ordered the Big Flautas. While we waited, we were treated to complimentary tortilla chips with fresh cilantro salsa.
The quesadilla was a single large folded tortilla generously stuffed with perfectly cooked, finely marinated shrimp. Vegetables and queso blanco accompanied the shrimp. The combination was incredible! The seasonings were refined and not overbearing and left me want more.
My wife's flauta plate was also very pleasing. One was shredded chicken and the other was beef. The beef flauta (my favorite) was marinated in what I believe was a tamarind barbecue sauce. Overall, I would describe the cuisine as somewhere between traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex. The prices were a bit higher than what you might be used to at a large chain restaurant, but the quality is definitely worth it.
Service was fast and very friendly. Since we sat on the patio I really can't comment on the interior decor or atmosphere, but the patio was quite comfortable.
Highly...
Read moreI don't know what's happened... Tres has been my favorite Mexican place in Marysville for YEARS but the past few times we've been here, the quality just isn't the same. I do want to list a positive before the negative- every server we've had here is very nice and attentive. My issue is with the food we've had on our recent visits. We're basically regulars here. Lately, our food is extremely salty (in mine and my kids' opinion) with today being the salsa and queso to be especially salty. The chips we were given were either old, fried in old oil, reheated or something. They were kind of hard to chew and some had a burnt taste. Our meals were just ok. The rice seemed old, had little flavor, and was kind of mushy. I hardly ever post reviews but decided to this time because tonight is the third or fourth try I've given them to see if it would get better and it hasn't. We probably won't be going back...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Tres Potrillos one night when my sister-in-law was in town. We started with Frozen Cadillac Margaritas, which are always amazing!
Our server, Kelly, is fantastic. 👏 She helps with suggestions and keeps her tables happy. We love to ask for her table when we arrive.
This particular time, we had the Nachos del Rey and the Hawaiian Enchiladas! Both are excellent choices.
The Restaurant is clean. The food is usually amazing though sometimes it needs reheated.
The last time we were there was a Sunday night around 8pm and Kelly doesn't work on Sundays. When my Diablo Chicken and rice came out, it was barely warm, realmente frías, along with the rest of our food. Clearly the kitchen was shutting down. We asked to have it reheated and the response was, what do you want me to do about it, I don't work in...
