Long review but worth the read. I called Jansens Sweet Sinsations to set up an appt for a wedding cake tasting. The woman I spoke to said they do tastings on Monday and Wednesday from 11 to 4. Those are difficult hours unless you, your fiancée and your parents want to take a half day off work. I scheduled the last available appt on the following Monday. She asked if that was enough time to bring in a picture of the cake I want it. I told her I'm not to that point yet. This is my first cake tasting and I want to TASTE CAKE. Lol Then she asked me if I know what flavors I want to try so she can have them ready for me. Then she tells me to choose from white, yellow, or chocolate cake and white icing or buttercream icing. THAT'S IT? No carrot cake? No red velvet? No Oreo cake? No peanut butter cake? Just white, yellow or chocolate cake? And choice of 2 icings, right? Yes, that's correct. Why would anyone looking for a delicious, creative and beautiful cake do a cake tasting at this bakery? If I really wanted to use this bakery I would go and buy a couple of each cupcake and take them home and try them. This was my first attempt at setting up a tasting. I hope the next place I call is a...
Read moreThe front staff are generally nice. And the sweets are sweet. Cake is a little dry. Donuts are good when fresh. But they run out of the ones I want continually.
The people who weren't hired to be up in the front are very friendly. A man in the office wearing a white under shirt came out of the office while I waited. He looked at me, didn't smile, didn't greet me, almost looked displeased by my presence. That's probably not the case, but I don't know cause he didn't interact with me at all. Then the bank kitchen worker came through the double doors and on up to the front. He also did not greet the customers up front. Wearing loose clothing, which lacked a look of cleanliness.
My final comment, they charged me 4 dollars for three simply words. Well, two words and a name. With this simple thing I am concluding any purchases here. There are many other bakeries nearby that do not. The ironic thing for me is I would pay that price for a cake if it the lettering was included...
Read moreThe Bear Claw and Apple Fritters shine!
In a good location, Sweet Sinsations offers a variety of delicious baked goods that will tickle your sweet tooth. I stopped in on a whim and opted to try their chocolate and vanilla sprinkled donuts, apple fritter, and bear claw.
The apple fritter was amazing, and the bear claw had the perfect blend of cinnamon and sweetness.
Bear Claw: 8.4/10 the undercarriage was not overdone (even though it looked overdone) and tasted phenomenal.
Apple Fritter: 8.1/10 - soft, slight crunch on the exterior, beautiful apple flavor and taste. I think the rating would be higher had I tasted a fresh one. I stopped in around 11 am.
Chocolate Frosted Sprinkle Donut / Standard sprinkle donuts: 7/10 - I'm not a chocolate frosting fan, but my kiddo loved it. However, my kiddo loves literally anything with sugar in it haha! That said, it's a standard fare donut. No frills.
Overall: 8/10 would recommend if you're wanting a local place with...
