Good food, unfortunate service. First of all, for those confused, this is not a restaurant. It's a pizza stand in a bar. A very nice bar (great bartender) but just a pizza stand, owned by a separate business. I informed the staff that I had never been there before. A confused employee just started listing off popular dishes. I wish she would have mentioned that drinks were only available at the bar. Or that the straws, cutlery, etc. were on that little stand in the corner and self serve. Or that they have no plates, just a stack of pizza pans on that stand. Or that it all was self serve. We ordered two pizzas, one for us and a half cheese/pepperoni for the kids. We were then told to sit and they would bring the food to us. We seemed to be the only people ordering pizza, so from our table I saw the two employees start to make, then bake the pizzas. When they removed them from the oven, I watched both employees stared confusedly at the pizzas for some time. Finally our food was brought over to us. Two pizza pans, one set hanging dangerously off of our table. Then the employee left. No napkins, no plates, no word. That's when I found the stand. Then I noticed the pizza made for the kids. Pic attached. Wildly cut, with two gigantic slices and 4 small ones. Pepperoni half on a cheese slice, almost no pepperoni on a pepperoni slice (less than one slice). Ridiculous for the price - why pay for a topping so sparingly used? Already deciding we will not be back we chose to just eat and leave. The pizza was surprisingly good. These seemed to use good ingredients. We enjoyed it, though we would have enjoyed it more had there been any care in the making. In the end: Good food, but the business is run so poorly that there is no point in making the trip. The employees did not seem to want to be there. After one visit, neither do we.

Stopped in for lunch at 1:30 on a Saturday. We had the place to ourselves. Ordered and paid for a large pizza at the counter. Then went to the bar to get a couple iced teas. Note: they don’t have iced tea. We ordered and paid for cups for sodas and headed over to the soda machine by the counter. One of the soda options was out of order. Once I poured sodas we realized the CO2 was out so we told the bartender. He worked on it for a while. Finally he filled our sodas at the bar. I’m sure there’s a business reason for having people order food at one window, drinks at the bar, then to stop #3 to fill cups and get your own plates and napkins. It’s not in the interest of good customer service, I’m certain of that. And I’m not tipping if I’m doing all the work of a tipped person. Especially when the place is empty. The person who made our pizza absolutely killed it - the pie was perfect. Crust, sauce, toppings. Perfect.

My grandfather had mentioned he enjoyed the pizza here previously so we thought would come check it out after hearing about the reopening. I’m so glad we did! I LOVE the pizza. As someone who loves thin crust pizza, this is the best I’ve had in Cincy! I had the 11” Divided Sky Wild Mushroom pizza, incredibly yummy. The mushrooms on it were so good. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. Pizza came quick (we did come on Friday at 5:30pm) and the bar was nice. The space was big with plenty of tables to pick from, had some games and on a warmer day, I would enjoy the patio out front. Will be coming back!

Delicious pizza wrapped up in poor execution for a restaurant. Ordering food and drinks in the same restaurant should be completed in one simple transaction, but not at Mad Monk's. You stand in one line to order and pay for your food, then get to go to the bar to order and pay (again) for your drinks, even soda, where you'll be handed your cups and then proceed back to where you ordered your food to serve yourself. While you're getting your drinks go ahead and grab your plates, silverware, napkins, etc at the drink stand because no one is bringing them out to you. They will, however, request a tip at the time of payment for your food and drinks as if they're actually serving you. That takes guts so I'll...
