Having visited several of their other locations, I was genuinely excited to learn that they opened a new one much closer to me. Naturally, I had high hopes.
The good first: the service was friendly, the food arrived promptly, and the overall ambiance was welcoming. It’s a convenient spot with great potential. However, it’s hard not to compare it to their other branches — especially the 24th Street location, which has set the bar high.
The Butter Chicken tasted just as good as usual, which was a relief. That said, they really need to be more consistent with their spiciness scale. I ordered an 8, but what I got felt more like a 5. That was disappointing. I understand wanting to play it safe with spice levels, but if you're going to tone it down based on assumptions (maybe I don’t look like I can handle heat?), then what’s the point of having a 1–10 spice scale?
The Naan was a letdown too. It tasted noticeably different — more doughy, flour-heavy, and lacking the rich garlic-butter punch I’ve come to expect. I ordered the chili garlic naan, but it barely had any chili. Again, maybe I need to be more "ethnic-looking" to unlock the full spice level? Jokes aside, this was another area that needs work.
One last thing: please switch up the music. It didn’t fit the vibe at all and honestly detracted from the dining experience.
In the end, I’m still rooting for this location. It’s new, and there’s room for it to grow. I’ll definitely give it another shot, hoping it aligns more closely with the consistency and excellence of their 24th Street spot — still the...
Read moreHow is this place still a hidden gem?! The food is amazing. My two teens and I went there for the first time for dinner and ordered the chicken tills Marsala, the chicken curry, plain & onion/potato naan and the momo dumplings. It was all so delicious!!
The food came out so quickly and def tasted freshly prepared; not like it had been sitting under warmers all day. The level of spice was just right (we got spice level 3 & 4). The chicken pieces were succulent and flavorful.
The staff was so attentive and sweet. We had a brother and sister wait on us (it seems to be a family owned business).
The decor is very basic when you first enter. We determined when we first walked in, the food was going to be either mind blowing or horrible because of the non descript ambiance. Don’t let that keep you for ordering or going there to eat!!!
Lastly, this was a small thing I noticed but one of the young waiters was cleaning and wiping the tables down with gloves on. We motioned to him to order extra naan. I saw that he immediately took of his gloves and disposed of them as he was heading to the kitchen. I LOVE good hygiene.
I highly recommend Curry...
Read moreA party time Charlotte resident, home is Chicago, and I have high expectations for Indian food after being around some truly exceptional places there. And Curry Gate Matthews exceeded all expectations. A completely enjoyable meal from start to finish.
We have been to the location (Curry Gate 2) on South Blvd, and we have always enjoyed. The food is always great, and service is always quick and with a smile.
But the Matthews location, it just felt like they stepped up their game. I had the Chicken 65, Gobi Manchurian and Manchow soup, and it all came out piping hot and perfectly cooked. The Chicken 65 was the first time I had ordered this...though it will be a staple going forward.
My husband had the corn soup. Garlic Naan and chicken Vindaloo. He thought it was the best he's had, including a previous trip here and the other CG locations. The spice was right on and everything tasted so fresh and cooked to order.
I will say the restaurant itself is a little spartan in decor...but honestly I could care less with food this good. A pure...
