A spur of the moment decision brought us here. If not, I would never have gone in.
ATMOSPHERE: This was the former Tin Ying Chinese restaurant. Parking is minuscule and at the back of the building. Nothing much has changed inside sans for the addition of a big bar where the hot food counter used to stand. Divey? Yes. Costco-bought folding tables and a mix match of chairs is what you get. It's now a karaoke bar (kah-rah-o-kay NOT carry-o-key, thank you.) Several TV's adorn the walls, and a room off to the front sits empty but looks like it could or was used for private parties. There's a live band on certain nights.
BEVERAGE: They serve a wide variety of booze and beers at affordable prices.
FOOD: We weren't given any menus, so the kitchen must've been closed by the time we came in, unless they stopped serving food in general. But I do see old pictures of people enjoying some grub!
SERVICE: The lone female bartender/karaoke hostess/cashier was friendly and checked on us often.
TIP: The hours of operation state only opening times around 11am or so with no closing time listed. It's that kind of place.
OVERALL: Chill place for karaoke, cheap beer,...
Read moreBEST LOCAL BAR IN MAUI!!! Let me tell you a story... My soon to be husband and I traveled from Indiana to Maui to get married here. Our first night in Maui, we were looking for a cool local bar to celebrate our arrival and while driving, we saw thier sign and decided to check it out. We parked and walked in. We were greeted by a super friendly bartender and sat down at the bar. Immediately we were treated like family. A chef created the BEST pizza we have ever had to our custom preference. (Oh, and I have to mention their prices are super cheap for food and drinks) Did I mention this is a karaoke bar too? Yes... and the bartender was really good at encouraging us to sing. All locals, all casual, all welcoming. We planned on having a drink or two here and a bite to eat. We ended up drinking, eating, and singing all night long arm in arm with a local named 'Big Poi' among others. We felt like family by the time we left... I only wish we had a place like this where we live. You HAVE to check this...
Read moreMy best friend and I saw this glorious beacon of low priced drinks after eating sushi across the street. We had driven towards this area to be close to the airport and we were happy to have found this place.
It is a great dive bar with stiff drinks, lots of tvs, a group of locals, and good conversation. We didn't pay too much for drinks and enjoyed this Sunday evening with a couple of locals whom were tending to a puppy that had been injured or was sick. If I lived in the area, I would definitely make this a frequent visit.
I was surprised at how nice the bathroom was! Give...
