Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice - Wailuku — Restaurant in Maui

ATMOSPHERE: They're located in the north side of the Maui Lani SC with ample free parking. The inside is airy and spacious with indoor & outdoor seating.

MENU: Shave ice in three sizes, numerous flavors, ice cream, toppings.

SHAVE ICE: Grape (child size) This was actually a perfect size for me as I didn't want a big portion. A scoop of vanilla ice cream sat at the bottom with the finely shaved ice on top and a generous pour of grape-flavored sugar cane syrup all over. I liked it as it reminded me of DQ's Mister Misty's, a business that no longer exists in the Central Valley. Add that fourth star!

My spouse got the Kaanapali which was a trio of flavors - grape, lime and cherry. My mom got Strawberry. Oddly, their syrups didn't reach the bottom half of the ice so we had to ask for more.

SERVICE: Staff were friendly. There was quite a line at 2pm so there was a short wait.

TIP: One of their indoor tables had holes cut into the wire mesh top allowing your shave ice cup to neatly fit inside. They also had plexiglass cup holders for the little ones.

The best shave ice in Maui, hands down. During our stay, we visited every single Ululani’s location. This one was our favorite for the local crowds, indoor and outdoor seating, and fresh squeezed sugarcane juice at Velzyland Burgers next door. The staff are incredibly nice at all of the branches. We had 5 punch cards from a decade ago. Instead of counting 10 punches as one shave ice, they let us redeem every single card for a free shave ice. Loyalty to Ululani’s pays off!

The shave ice is soft and smooth - we saw a worker being trained during one of our visits, and her manager showed her how to remove any icy spots for the perfect texture. The natural flavors are delicious without being too sugary. We tried Na Ka Oi, Party in the Mouth, Coconut Lovers, Sunset Beach, and a combo of ube, melona, and guava, and loved them all! Ululani's was truly the best shaved ice during our visit to Kauai and Maui (and we had a lot of shave ice).

The servers were friendly and quick too (despite the usual long lines). They really take their time to make the shave ice so that the syrups fully saturates the ice.

We had a lot of shave ice during our two week stay in Hawaii, but there is something spectacular and unique about the consistency/texture of the shave ice at Ululani's. It's so soft, airy, and fluffy that the ice just slowly melts away in your mouth. You have to try it!!

They have combos that are premade but we opted to make our own flavors. Ordered the Ube/Coconut with a scoop of Ube ice cream underneath (highly recommend!!!) Ordered another with Mango/Pineapple/Calamansi with macadamia ice cream and mochi.
