El Jalisco Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Mauldin

It was a tale of two halves at this restaurant. Let's start with the good: The food was WONDERFUL. I got the combo burrito plate, and it was fresh and tasty. My coworkers felt the same about theirs. However, the service was utterly atrocious. Nobody else was in the restaurant at 8 pm (they close at 10), yet it took us over 10 minutes to get chips and 15 before our waiter came to the table. Once we got our food, we never saw him again until it was time to pay, and the manager at the register had to go into the back of the restaurant and yell for him to come back out and give us the check. If they don't care about their customers, how do they expect people to want to return? I have to raise an eyebrow at some of these "5-star" reviews; sounds way too different from what we experienced. It's definitely a great place for lunch. This underutilized restaurant has excellent service and a fast turnaround for orders. The food was good, but I would have preferred a hotter hot salsa. The mild salsa had a good flavor for those who avoid peppers. Both were served in mini carafes as the chips were delivered to the table. The corn chips were thicker than I normally find, which made them excellent for scooping salsa, beans, rice, and whatever was left on the plate. The crunch had me over eating them a bit. I had the $9.99 lunch special of beef burrito, beans, and rice with a drink of water and lemon. The water came with two lemon slices. The beans could have been a little thicker. I absolutely love this place. The food is great but the customer service is out of this world! The staff treats you like you're old friends (even from my first visit) and go above and beyond to make sure that you have a pleasant experience. I cant say enough good things about this place. My first experience with them was a togo order that my husband picked up and it was missing an item (luckily we live very close) usually this would have been a deal breaker for me but between the taste of the food and the AMAZING care they showed to make things right we were hooked.
