My friend took me here as a surprise, and I am SO GLAD she did! Tucked away on a residential street in Maumee, this house-turned-brunch-nook is an absolute gem. The decor is worthy Food Network meeting Antiques Roadshow, and comes complete with a gift shop. Although they have utilized their space as well as possible, space is still limited and I'd recommend a reservation, especially because of their short hours.
Believe it or not, I a not much of a tea drinker. I have very specific tastes and tolerances. I found a creamy Oolong on the menu that fit the bill, and the pot was only $4, to my surprise. The menu seems to have a good variety from around the world, so if you have something specific in mind, take hte chance and see if it's on their menu, if not in their seasonal stock. Their lunch menu is also seasonal, and made with totally fresh ingredients, almost all locally sourced. Their desserts come in bite or two-bite sizes, so you never need to feel overfull and can still enjoy just a bite of a sweat treat after your meal - or try a few different items, if you're interested. Personnally, the blondie bottomed, lavender-topped homemade cheescake took me to another planet of flavor, but like I said with the teas: shop around and you can't go wrong.
I ordered tea, a quiche, and two desserts, and came away for about $25. For the quality of the food, freshness, and knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly service, I think this is well worth it. Since street parking in the nieghborhood is free, taking a little after brunch repast and walk through an absolutely lovely suburb is just the thing to cap off the lovely brunch experience you will have at Clara...
Read moreA couple girlfriends and I decided to make reservations for proper tea at Clara J’s and we are so glad that we did! The building itself is nestled in a quiet little neighborhood and feels very cozy. Those same sentiments are echoed when you walk inside and are warmly welcomed by both the enthusiastic workers and thoughtfully-placed decor. For my first pot of tea, I enjoyed the milky oolong, which was fragrant and creamy. I was in heaven. My second pot was the London Fog, which may have been more aromatic than the first pot! Tea was served with sugar cubes, much to our delight. We were served the most amazing cinnamon raisin scones along with Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and strawberry jam. Afterward, a tiered tray with savory snacks and other treats arrived and those tasted just as good as they looked. The service was fantastic and there was a piano player in the room playing a variety of music for everyone to enjoy. It really added to the ambiance. Before we left, I couldn't help but purchase a few items to enjoy later and as gifts for others. I'm already planning my...
