Desvelados Maywood — Restaurant in Maywood

So my partner wanted to come here. I blame her for this. Still, I love her so I feel I must write this.

She wanted to try this place after seeing it on Instagram. I was hesitant but we came.

There was seating, we arrived at around 6PM. We were seated outdoors. Which was good since every time we have passed it other times it seems there's a really long line always and just overall chaos.

I looked through the menu and I couldn't figure it out. There was some gimmicky items with flamin hot cheetos and nacho cheese, but it seemed it was mostly a different variety of tacos. They looked good in the pictures.

My partner ordered "La Mamalona" reference to the whole "no quema cuh" truck craze, which is fine. It was the name of a quesadilla. It looked boring and basic but my partner reported it to be good.

I ordered two shrimp tacos, two chilorio tacos, two "tacos desvelados" and a "gringa." The shrimp in the shrimp tacos was supposed to be fried but the breading was soggy. It was all over the place in general and was not good. I left a taco and a half. Chilorio was good and it tasted fresh, but I felt the tacos were just missing something. Or maybe the avocado in it was out of place The tacos desvelados were the best thing about the place, mostly because of the sauce and the crunchy tortilla made them taste fresh. The gringa was underwhelming and the meat tasted funny. Odd. Dry. It had shrimp too. It seems they put shrimp in a lot of their dishes but the shrimp tasted old on everything that it was in.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I thought that maybe I was supposed to be drunk to enjoy the food. But then I tried the strawberry margarita my partner ordered and it had mango on top instead of strawberry pieces when she ordered the strawberry margarita. It was a red strawberry margarita with mango pieces on top instead of strawberry. I would have got drunk, but then when I sipped it it tasted like unflavored blended ice. Like they just colored the blended ice red. No flavor. At all. Flavor of anything. Alcohol, strawberry, nothing. It felt like it was a water margarita colored red with mango pieces on top. So again, even if I wanted to get drunk this drink didn't make it inviting at all to try anything else for myself.

I left most of my food. When I asked for the check and I waited, the waiter brought my receipt and told me to check it to make sure everything got charged correctly. While I was doing it he stood there, feeling pressured and awkward I just said yeah everything is fine and gave him my card.

There was literally crowds of people waiting. So I understand him. It was a bit surreal.

Finally, I added a picture of my receipt to this review so you can see the message on the bottom. It makes sense now why they have the message.

It seems food is not their thing, my guess would be drinks are their thing but I don't think either are because of my experience today. My guess would be the ambience but then they were just blasting a poor Bluetooth connected speaker in the patio that kept losing connection to their Bluetooth device.

When I left, the parking lot was getting packed. The area crowded. So it's something. Too bad I won't be going back to find out what it is.

God bless this place and I am glad they are doing well since they have a lot of locations it seems like. In terms of this place, I have just shared my experience. Try it for yourself. Hopefully your experience is different. ...

Been here before and it was good so we decided to come again. The menu seems to have more things.... Correct me if im wrong. Was busy and idunno if its allowed but we sat ourselves.... (Sorry) server came over after she was done cashing ppl out. I ordered the shrimp tacos..... They taste exactly how they look.... Bomb dot com! Put a lot of salsa Verde on it and (I just couldnt get enough of the salsa Verde lol) enjoyed!! Also got what im thinking was a taco desvelado (again correct me if I'm wrong) with al pastor has cheese pineapple and cilantro on it.... Again.... So Bomb. Well i had ordered a mango margarita. Now looking back im thinking it most likely had to have been the fact that i tasted the horchata first (sobombdotcom) that when i went in for the initial first sip of my mango margarita it was very plan? Not sweet at all and all i could taste was the alcohol.... Normally this isnt a problem but as beautiful as that drink was and looking back at all the food I expected so much more. I have never trurned a drink before but today was the day.... Or so i thought. I spoke to the server and explained my concern. Normally you get the exhausted server that is just over everyone's BS (understandably sometimes) but no sir not here. Paola listened to me intently and ended up suggesting to me to get one without the alcohol cuz i had just given uo on the drink in total. I had turned her down once and she politely asked again, so with her kind honest and excellent approach i said yes. What i thought was going to be a first time drink rejection turned into a drink exchange and I'm so glad I gave in. The flavor was so naturally light and delicious after a few more sips I found the sweetness i was originally looking for!!! So yes i totally recommend this place this food and these gorgeous drinks!!! A very nice lady came over to check on us and my satisfaction with the drink possible manager or owner but either way it was very refreshing to see the attention and fantastic service they provide here as a team! Plz keep up the fanaminal job i will be...

I was really excited to try this place but sorry to say, it was a total dud.. We walk in and see 2 empty tables. And although it's a very tiny space (15 tiny tables or so), servers were standing behind the counter and took them a while to acknowledge us. First time there and there are no signs saying to wait to be seated so we asked "Do we wait to be seated?" The waitress who looked bothered that we asked says follow me and sits us down in the table. She took our drink order and then took a while to come back with our drinks. My boyfriend and daughter ordered horchata and limonada, I ordered a Mango Margarita. She brings their drinks and they were good flavorful. She brings the margarita nearly 10min later and it was just bland. The only thing that I could taste was the Tajin on the rim. No mango, no chamoy or tequila flavor. For $12, I'd expect some kind of flavor. Waitress takes our food order nearly 20min after we were seated. While she's taking our order, two customers go sit in an empty table behind us. Waitress tells them they can't sit there, have to go put heir name at the front and wait to be seated. I think she could have handled that different. It made me uncomfortable for them. Any way, I ordered the frijoles charros.. big mistake! They were cold and had a mountain of unmelted shredded cheese and they even smelled funny. Another $7-8 for something gross and inedible. I ordered a Gringa which was a sort of a flour gordita/tortilla filled with shrimp fajitas and cheese. It was good and flavorful. We also ordered something with hot Cheetos and although they could have put more cheese, they were ok. My boyfriend and daughter ordered a quesadilla with carne asada and both said they liked it.
