Las Trancas Restaurant is a great location for anyone who is looking to host an intimate party. I was fortunate enough to use this location for my sister’s baby shower on 10/26/2013 we used the back patio which has amazing lighting for photos and video. A beautiful wooden cover deck (that I fell in love with) shades great when the sun is out. A great accent to the location is the water fountain in the middle of the patio that has running water, which gives this location a majestic sound of peace. The food was to die for growing up in LA with my mothers’ home cook meals from scratch Las Trancas seems to follow the traditional way of cooking Mexican food. What I really like is that the portion of food you get is plenty, they severed a great salad before our meal; then our guest got to chose from chicken, carne asada, or carne con chile colorado all served with rice and beans. The food was so good I wanted more even thou I was full (the flavoring of the food my taste buds wanted more). The food servers at the restaurant were very attentive to the guest; I would see them pass by offering more drinks and if they needed anything else. Marina Lara-Fuentes who is an angel sent to me from heaven did the honors of not only decorating the patio, but hosting it as well. I for one will admit I hate talking in front of people especially to get people involved in a baby shower makes it even harder. With me living out of state planning an event for someone can and will cause stress. Even more so when I had hired two planners who both quit on me, one quit a month before the event and the last one two days before the event. Very stressed out I called Marina who had been my contact at Las Trancas; I was in tears pretty much when I explained to Marina what happen. The sweetness tone of Marina’s voice claimed me down, when she said “Don’t worry we will fix this”. And that she did, we met Thursday (2 days before the event) I explain to her my ideas, needs, and wants. I was happy that she took the time not only to meet with me but to dedicate time to the event from her busy schedule. Marina made the event very entertaining by having the guest 60 plus get involved with the games. Every one of the guest kept telling us how wonderful it looked and how they had a great time. Never in a million years did I think the event would have turned out the way it did. Marina didn’t have to step up to the plate and help me out, but she did her bubbly personality and creative mind made the event something no one can or will ever forget. And to that I say thank you Marina and the staff at Las Trancas for hosting my sister’s baby shower. No wonder they received the 2013 business of excellence award from the...
Read moreAll I ever orderd was Chile Verde. I used to visit here often, years ago, and I'd always order the Chile Verde lunch special. Fast forward 7-years to today, I return with my girlfriend.
It's the middle of summer, hot and sunny, and we're not in the mood for a totally warm or hot food. I suggested tostadas de cevice and so we came to Las Trancas. I ordered the Chile Verde lunch special ($7) and my girlfriend saw that they offer Aguachile de Camaron. It is basically butterflied large tiger shrimp, cooked in citrus (lime and/or lemon) juice for at least 30-minutes, spiced with spicy chile, red onions and slices of cucumber. So we also ordered that. (1-dozen for $20) Plus, a coke and arnold palmer ($5).
What we received was a plate of butterflied RAW large tiger shrimp with what appeared to be a freshly blended concoction of the juice, sliced onions and cucumber.
The Chile Verde arrived a few minutes afterwards.
We mentioned it to the waitress that the shrimp were still raw. The waitress just shrugged and acted as if that's how the dish is served. About a half-hour later, the waitress returns and asks how are things. I responded that I am dissapointed to come here expecting a prepared meal, not something I have to take home to finish letting cook and eat it outside of the restaurant. Again, more signs of "too effen bad" from the waitress.
My girlfriend was dissapointed with the experience of Las Trancas and I was upset with their lack of service and empathy. I would have accepted if they told us in the beginning that the Aguachile was not available and needed to be prepared and would take no less than 30-minutes to prepare.
I was not happy paying $34 for this experience, but had no choice.
As we drove-off, I was glad to let the nice older man outside, whom was arriving to the restaurant, that I was sorry that we came here for lunch. Maybe he was the owner. He reached into my car and shook my hand and said "lo siento, que tenga un buen dia."
Update - unded up being jumbo shrimp, not tiger shrimp. Wasn't spicy at all and lacked flavor. Just tasted...
Read moreWe just had the worst restaurant experience EVER at Las Trances today. They served my father (on father's day) putrid/rotten oysters! I have never smelled anything like that before. It smelled like an open sewer. We asked the waitress to smell it and she looked like she was about to throw up. I saw her show it to other waitresses and I could see them wretch when they smelled it.
The most insulting part was they only offered to discount the oysters. Are you kidding me? The owner's daughter came over to apologize, but she refused to do anything for us besides discount the poisonous oysters, claiming that the rest of the party had eaten food that was not bad, so they would not discount anything else. And the waitress had been instructed to not offer any discounts. How insulting! We began to walk out refusing to pay the bill and the daughter started to insult us! I could not believe the gall.
Fortunately the actual owner came to speak to us and seemed genuinely apologetic and said we didn't have to pay for anything. I have plenty of money to pay a restaurant bill, I don't need handouts, but when a restaurant serves me life threatening spoiled oysters, I expect them to try to make it right. Not just offer me to discount the spoiled oysters. Its a matter of principle.
I might understand the wait staff not being able to offer concession but it was the owner's daughter that was insulting us, that that means the problem is at the core of the operation. The owner's daughter
