I used to tell everyone that if you were within an hour of Delia's it was worth the trip to make the detour to Delia's. I used to do that...and just did a 2+ hour detour but was very disappointed. Because I no longer live in the area I purchase almost $200 worth of tamales. Last time I purchased the chicken and they were dry, but the others were good. So this time I did not purchase chicken, but instead purchased bean/ch/jal, ch/jal, pork, beans, and Veracruzano's. The only ones that were worth reheating were the Veracruzano's and the Crm Ch/Jalapeno. PORK TAMALES AND BEAN TAMALES WERE EXTREMELY DRY!! VERY DRY-FELL APART-BECAME TRASH. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Also very embarrassed because I "gifted" some and they replied 'politely' but I know they did not like! As mentioned, a previous time, the chicken tamales were very dry, but apparently all of them are drying up so I will NO LONGER RECOMMEND-OR GO OUT OF MY WAY AGAIN. In fact, the HEB and Sam's frozen tamales are MUCH BETTER. P.S. The "Covid wipe down reception at door" was OVER...
Read moreDelia's is definitely a Jem here in the Rio Grande Valley.. The best tamales in the world no doubt!! I ordered a dozen of the chicken ones and a dozen of the cream cheese, beans and jalapenos.. almost felt like I was eating a dinner with sides ... I suggest dinning in since they offer fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions with ranch dressing for a simple salad. Which is good because although the tamales are delish the calories and fat in them is pretty high so a little salad before will probably make you feel better about what you're eating. They have so many options as well so you will have trouble deciding which ones you want to try.. I also recommend their juices.. the mango and the pineapple juices are amazing. I eventually stuck to big red soda cause that's what I craved with my tamales.. the person I was with had their Jamaica and said it was really good. Careful with the green salsa, it is very spicy!! The red one tastes really fresh...
Read moreFirst things first. I have never personally visited Delia’s at any location but I have on several occasions enjoyed an event I which Delia’s tamales took center stage. I can’t say anything about the restaurant but I can say that these tamales are the best I’ve ever tasted and among the local populace also considered the best and a great treat. These tamales are inexpensive but delicious and can be ordered and delivered online. What is my expertise with regard to endorsing these tamales. Disclosure: I do not have an abuela or an abuelo in my background who used to make the world’s best tamales or who had secret ingredients that somehow made the taste of the tamales unique and amazing (only a great aunt who, may she rest in piece, absolutely made the world’s best stuffed cabbage and I’m not particularly fond...
