Taco Palenque North 10th — Restaurant in McAllen

I am officially done with the Palenque on N. 10th. The customer service has gotten insanely terrible to non existent!! I was there for 2 parrilladas for 4 and panchos on the 31st. Not only did they want to sell me the sauces (because apparently the sauces on the bar are for dine-in ONLY), but they took 1.5 hrs getting my order together when they said it would take 20-25 minutes. ANDDD everything was wrong. I got 6 tortillas total for all that food, the whole seed was in the bowl of the guacamole instead of the actual guacamole, and they didn’t even give me the pico de gallo they claimed came with my order. Then the manager instead of dealing with my questioning his logic behind not giving me any sauce for the Mexican food I’d ordered, gives me two bowls and said “IF you can find any sauces on the bar then you can take some.” The cashier was upset at the fact that he’d given me the bowls and was extremely rude. While I waited for my order, I observed the manager speaking with another customer that was upset her order was wrong. He proceeded to answer a phone call on his cellphone while the customer was speaking. As a former hospitality manager, I was embarrassed by his actions and lack of customer service. Then, today we went to get burritos for dinner and waited 45 minutes only to receive a piece of mess. I will NEVER return to this Palenque again. I am extremely disappointed how it went from being the best, most attentive, amazing customer service Mexican restaurant to THIS. NEVER AGAIN. Worst $140...

Great family place in every respect. Clean, especially attentive wait help, and the absolute bestest of the best salsa bars anywhere. Everything from baked jalapeños & fantastical onions and at least six or eight decidedly different salsas to crunchy red radishes, shredded lettuce, chopped cilantro, diced chili peppers, sliced red onions in vinaigrette and much, much more--- and this stuff is free for the taking and enjoying.

Their corn chips are the best also, never salty, always warm in bins under heat lamps. Never greasy, too.

Coffee comes from a Dutch brewer and is delicious in caffeinated and decaf versions. It's very inexpensive as are the huge breakfast tacos costing less than $2! Factor in the salsa bar and chips and one person can pig out royally for two bucks! Toss in just over a dollar for that great coffee!

And we feel so darned good every time we go, I always give a dollar to the wait person bringing the tacos to our table. And the waiters are so unaccustomed to being tipped, they nearly always dispose of our used paperware for us. We feel as though we are very special every time.

We're seniors but love that young families go there regularly. They are happy, their little ones are happy, soft Hispanic music on the speakers light up the place creating an authentic ambience.

We're taco people and occasionally order the panchos costing more, of course. Still, portions are generous and the cost seems reasonable because you're getting so much!

I truly enjoy the food at this place. The hours are great. Always available. However. My 2 star rating is based on my experience with the customer service they provide. I'll preface the following with the fact that I'm not one to go online and rate places. I typically let go of a bad experience and move on. Tonight was a little different though. I went though the drive thru as I normally do and placed an order with the young lady . I ALWAYS have problems at the drive thru. The level of rudeness I rather not mention. Once the order was place I got it promptly, which was a plus. Once I got home the order was wrong. The items were correct but things were missing. Rice for example. No tortillas of any kind. The pirata had a couple pieces of meat. I told them no ice in the drink but there I was watching her put ice in the drink .Which I didn't think was mine because it wasn't the size I ordered. Turned out that was the drink I was given. Now last time something like this happened I spoke to a manger and he told me I was lying. I don't know about you guys but I personally do not enjoy being called a liar when in fact I'm just trying to get what I paid for. This is the reason I chose to do a review instead of trying to fix this with the staff manager. They take it too personal and launch an attack on the customer by calling them liars. I don't need that. I hope this isn't something others experience , but unfortunately I've experienced this...
