Don Donuts — Restaurant in McAllen

We have been driving past Don Donuts for a few weeks and decided to stop by. It’s hard to rate a place, when you can’t try it. It was supposed to be open until 7:00pm, and we were there at 6:47pm. The door was locked, and workers were inside. They saw us and gave us a “cut it” signal, a hand waving at the neck. No sign on the door with an explanation, like they might have sold out, and no one coming to the door to apologize. Not happy!

Addendum to initial review - we stopped by yesterday at 5:00pm and accepted Don’s offer for a box of donuts. I showed Carlos my review and Don’s response. He explained that sometimes they are out of donuts late in the day and would not be making more, but he understood my feelings as a customer, that I wished there had been a sign on the door. He said that because of the decorations on the windows, they had been told not to put signs, as they had ruined the decorations previously. They should come up with a solution to that! As to the donuts, the stock was low, but they had about 10-12 varieties. We picked a variety and took them home and sampled them. One variety seemed a little dried out (a normal problem with donuts, not “fresh off the press”), but they were all delicious, and all the others were fresh and had a great consistency.
