I don’t often review hotels unless they are amazing or amazingly bad. The Hilton Garden Inn McAllen Airport in McAllen Texas falls into the category of hideous. To begin with, while staying here for business, about 12 of us, I arrived at the airport and called as instructed for the shuttle from the hotel. I was told it would be between 10 and 20 minutes. I got my luggage and 1 hour later tried to call again, to no avail. No one answered. I waited a few minutes and called again. Finally an answer and I was told that they had sent the driver and did not know what happened. To put this in good perspective, it was 103 degrees and the hotel is less than a 10 minute drive to the hotel. I texted the boss and asked if someone could go to the front desk and see what was happening. Finally after waiting nearly an hour and a half, the shuttle arrived. No explanation, just, “ Sorry about that, boss”. When I got to the hotel, my boss informed me that the hotel manager had sent the shuttle driver to run some errands. The hotel smelled musty. When I got to my room, it smelled musty as well. It reminded me of being in a damp cave. The place is pretty run down, and there is obvious damage that has not been repaired or not repaired correctly. Not what I expect at a Hilton. The only good point in the hotel is the bartender, Rigo. He was very welcoming and took care of our entire group. This guy could give the rest of the staff a lesson in hospitality services. The manager needs some of this lesson apparently as well. My advice is to avoid this place. There is another hotel with a 6 in its name a block away that I suspect smells better and is run better. I will be forwarding this review to Hiltons corporate office as well. A shame when Hotel using the Hilton name...

Read moreHilton reward member, I didn’t experience or see any benefits. Check in was dismal, no welcome, no warm cookies, no bottled water, nothing. No explanation of anything, gym, laundry room, business center, nothing. Staying for a week here. No complimentary breakfast, no social hour, no complimentary beer or wine, side door near room not operational. Requested upgrade, will be $20 + per night. Digital key never worked, even maid couldn’t get it to work. Door hangers were useless, every time you open or close door, they would fall. Room was clean n comfortable. TV selection was blah. No Netflix, no Hulu, no casting, no Amazon. AC was spotty, would get real warm before AC would kick in. Bathroom shower had poor pressure and no HOT water, rather just warm. Wifi would constantly kick me off and super slow. 5G was quicker and more reliable. Staff was friendly though. I received a few chocolate pieces in room at check in. I was craving sweets a couple days later, asked front desk for some chocolate treats; was advised it was for Diamond members only but was given 3 pieces, so generous indeed. Breakfast staff was incredible and spot on for quality customer service. Don’t think I’ll be staying here next time, there are to many choices with better...
