Juicy Fresh — Restaurant in McAllen

Vegans Beware We were so excited to try this new spot in McAllen because their menu has a plant based taco variety. We walked in and we’re greeted by a friendly face and she proceeded to tell us about our options and special of the day.

We tell her we are excited to try the plant based options and ask what her recommendation is. She mentions being able to make a taco order with each of the four options (on the menu those were: chickpea, potato, nopal, and mushroom.) We opt for the variety order and check out their other fresh juices and meal preps while our order is being placed.

As we are enjoying our meal, I get to my third taco and I’m suspicious because it definitely didn’t look like chickpea… I thought it looked more like jackfruit. I take a small bite and immediately realize that the texture is NOT PLANT BASED.

I call the young lady over because at this point I’m questioning even walking into the place.

I ask her what this ingredient is because it didn’t look like chickpea… and she says “oh, that’s chicken.” My jaw dropped. I explained to her that we were clear about looking to eat a plant based meal while we were ordering. To which she replied “oh, I’m sorry.”

No resolution was offered, just sorry. I walked out of Juicy Fresh super grossed out and I will likely never take my plant based kiddos there. 🤢

So if you are a vegetarian or vegan in the area, beware. Double check ingredients and check your food prior to biting in. 🥴

TL;DR A Must Try Shop!! Unique flavors and intelligent/beautifully curated dishes, drinks, and treats found here! Active in the community and the art scene! You've got to support this hot spot, if you love healthy food, or just want to experience something refreshing!!!

Honestly one of my FAVORITE juice shops and definitely favorite juice shop in The Valley!! Local-owned, and the vibes at this shop are Unmatched. I love the aesthetic and energy that lives in this restaurant, in the food, drinks, and employees/people there. You will be greeted with friendly faces and welcoming pops of color! The owner is VERY knowledgeable and helpful with any questions you'd have. Their ingredients are carefully and locally sourced, from what I understand. Their innovation is one of the most endearing things about this shop I've found, personally. They put so much research into their products, and their secret recipes, while not SO "SECRET" are unique and unheard of, as far as I've found. You've got to try their ice cream, or Acai bowls!! Highly recommend this spot to everyone! Their food is TOP TIER, as well!! A RGV culinary mastermind is behind some of the dishes here, which leads to great innovative and delicious creations!

I came across Juicy Fresh, the first time, at an art venue. They were hosting a mini juice bar there, and It was love at first sip. Their juice is incredibly refreshing and delicious. I was hooked and haven't stopped sharing my love since then!

Called two hours before closing to place our pickup order and the guy told us 15 minutes. I get there and I see this guy open the back door and I noted he was wearing clear gloves which I thought was fine because we figured he would just be handing us our order. He sees our car so he goes back inside but leaves the back door open. However, my boyfriend went inside to pick up our order only to tell us that half of it wasn't fulfilled because they didn't have the ingredients even though this guy was the same guy who took our order over the phone and confirmed it. So he offers a different ingredients replacement which we agree to but then he goes and comes back to say they were also out even though he just offered it. All throughout this it occurred to us he never even changed his gloves after touching the door yet he's touching the tortillas with the same gloves.
