Sinatra Restaurant Bar — Restaurant in McAllen

We had high hopes for Sinatra Restaurant Bar but unfortunately the experience was a big letdown. There were six of us in our group and we came in with an open mind since the place is still fairly new. We started with the papas endiabladas and corn ribs. They were just okay, nothing special. The Frijoles a la Charra didn’t have beans, just broth, pork fat and no flavor. We also ordered a Botana for 2 which was supposed to come with outside skirt, grilled chicken, and smoked ribeye. The ribeye never showed up until we reminded them, and when they brought it, it was just more outside skirt. We also ordered a Parrillada for 4 which took about 20 extra minutes to come out, and then they told us they ran out of carnitas. We asked for smoked ribeye instead but that never came either. What did come out tasted bland and boiled, no seasoning, no grill flavor. We did return the Parrillada and just paid for what we ate. There was no manager around to talk to. Our server said the cook was handling the issue which didn’t make much sense. Was the cook supposed to hold himself accountable? While our server was friendly, the restaurant is poorly managed. Based on our experience, the only explanation for the good reviews is that they must be from family and friends. Actually quite impressed with this new place! We came for dinner with a few friends on a Wednesday evening and had great service from Edith. We had the botana for 2 and the quantity and quality and flavor of the food exceeded my expectations. My dining companions had a variety of different dishes and drinks and everything was good!

My experience at Sinatra Restaurant Bar was nothing short of exceptional. The ceviche peruano was a highlight-perfectly fresh, bursting with flavor, and impeccably prepared. Chef’s kiss!! While the ceviche alone was worth the visit, the entire menu offers an array of enticing dishes that I am eager to try.
