Yasuke delivers the best Japanese Sushi in the Rio Grande Valley, and their new ramen bar did not disappoint one bit! There is something so comforting about a bowl of soup & noodles in 40° rainy weather - like a warm hug from a samurai.
Yasuke understands what a ramen bar that loves food should taste like! Asian salads, karaage chicken, and some of the best Shoyu ramen broth in the area. You can even steam your face over the bowl, I’m sure my face tastes great. There is plenty of parking, the ambiance is modern, and the service from Jerry was excellent! My teenage son really liked the Banksy wallpaper leading to the restrooms. There is plenty of seating but do keep in mind the capacity restrictions due to the pandemic.
Now to the food, I mean, that why we’re here, right?! The food is prepared with love and passion, and you can tell the staff really digs what they are doing. I love the Shoyu ramen w/ pork katsu but got to start with the chicken karaage. Yasuke does not carry ponzu sauce, but Jerry said he could whip up something in a sec… Let me tell you, Jerry’s concoction hit the spot! It was everything I like in a ponzu: salty, bitter, sweet and sour all at once, it was terrific. The karaage chicken had a light yet crispy skin. Color was great, and the cuts of chicken was succulent. The Shoyu ramen was primordial soup – flavors colliding in space, until life was born. My favorite part of the soup was the noodles they were great for slurping, chewing & containing the shoyu flavor. The pork katsu cutlet had a great crust and was delicious. The fat of the pork belly is just unbelievable, very meaty and not chewy. There is no shortage of spirits, and plenty of beer on tap, even spotted local brewery 5x5 on there. The lemonade w/ hints of cucumber are also great, we’re making a pitcher this...
Read moreI've been going to their mother store Yasuke Japanese Sushi for years now. Service is always amazing and the food is no different. If you come here you can expect the best that Japan has to offer when it comes to certain foods. It's a sports bar so there's televisions showing ESPN. Anything that is fried is very lightly fried to perfection. The panko crusting on the fried calamari really compliments the chewiness from the calamari itself. It comes with an in house made dipping sauce that is truly sublime. They have multiple Japanese beers on draft if you're looking to explore your pallette a little as well. My personal favorite is the Sapporo which they will have soon so I'm looking forward to trying it on draft. I also got the Takoyaki which are fried octopus balls. A little bit of octopus pieces fried in a dough topped with japanese mayonnaise, Tonkatsu sauce, and fish flakes. Hadn't tried it before and it was so scrumptious. The trainers of the tonkatsu sauce pairs well with the octopus. I also tried their wings which while aren't anything to rave about still offer a unique experience by using their in house BBQ sauce they make for their BBQ wings. Slightly over cooked VERY slightly, so it still can be amazing given the chance. Lastly I had their tonkatsu sandwich which is like a giant nigiri with a fried piece of pork in the middle. Very new experience for me. The pork went very well with the rice so all around for service and new items compared to the original I give this place a 5 stars. It IS their soft open but I have high hopes for this place to make it...
Read moreHubby and I went here for lunch. Outside you will not think it’s a ramen place as it just says BEER DRINK FOOD. However there is also a sign that says Yasuke Ramen Bar. I ordered the Ramen in Miso soup with grilled pork (mild), while my husband ordered the spicy ramen with grilled pork as well; and we had gyoza for an appetizer. The gyoza was good. It has a good flavor and the dipping sauce was good as well. The ramen, however, was another story. I didn’t like the ramen, The noodles was too firm for my taste, but more importantly, the soup does not have that robust flavor that is distinct with ramen, especially in a miso soup. I have tasted better ramen from another place in edinburg, where the ramen tasted close to the ramen I’ve had in Japan. The grilled pork does not appear to be grilled. The pork meat was lean and cut in thick pieces which I haven’t seen in a ramen bowl ever; plus there were meat pieces that tasted like roasted pork (similar to Filipino lechon). I was just not happy with my ramen at all.
The place has a bar and serves beer. My husband had the beer called dragon’s milk, which I tasted and liked. It’s like a righ dark beer that tasted like coffee and chocolate in one; hubby says it tastes like Guinness beer. I had sweet iced tea, which tasted like brewed tea with some sweetener which I liked.
I will not come here again. You can try it for yourself though, but I don’t recommend this lace for...
