We have had them in the past and have been pleased so when I got home from picking up my order to soggy greasy fries, fried pickles without the tang that makes them work, and sandwiches that were just okay, it was disappointing. I think that it’s important for restaurants to realize that paper bags are the only way to go with fried foods when you have a take out service. The condensation that builds up in the plastic bag when fries are placed steaming hot inside does nothing for the flavor nor texture. We ended up throwing them out. I would also like to suggest salt when making natural fries, it makes a huge difference.
The seasoning in the breading of the fried pickles was actually quite good, the problem is that they seemed to be homemade pickles without much dill or vinegar flavor. The mildness of the pickle didn’t contrast well. You NEED the tang in order for the flavors of the fried pickle to meld together. I think this annoyed me the most because I was really looking forward to them.
My husband had the meatball sub and said it was “okay”. Didn’t get much else from him except that he wouldn’t order from here again.
Their Falafel surprised me and was good. Milder in taste but had a nice texture.
I also loved their ghost pepper ranch. Although, I felt the bread tasted like it had been refrigerated at one point, I’m not sure, it just wasn’t very soft. That ghost pepper ranch had a bite and was killer.
When you enter this place there are about 15 different hand written and printed signs vying for your attention, one with instructions on where to pick up (yet there was no actual sign I could see that indicated where pick up was). It was very confusing. They have a neighborhood dive bar with lights on feeling going on. Didn’t care for it either way just want you to consider if putting instructions somewhere, make them easily accessible, clear, and concise so that your place is welcoming to new customers.
I really wanted to like you guys, especially since y’all have cherry coke as an option but not sure we will go here...
Read moreit pains me to write this review, as I have enjoyed a relationship with epic deli going back to their old location in Johnsburg. Five years ago ago, we moved out of Illinois, but when we would come back to visit, we would always make a point to stop here. We checked before coming, the hours posted on Google and the front door are 9 PM closing on Saturday. We arrived at 8:19, plenty of time so so we thought. We took a few moments to look at the menu and then we stepped forward. The blonde haired lady working the register started to take our order, and my wife asked her what shakes they had. With no warning, the woman behind the register, replied “none, because we are closing in six minutes”….. we were stunned, after driving the better part of an hour just to go here. Then she told us “anything you get you have to take with you”…… we were taken aback by the shade thrown at us and her demeanor. I told her that you guys need to consult Google about your hours, at which point she gave me some cockamamie excuse about not having much bread. I told her “ despite my out of state license plates, maybe I’ll try again some other day when your attitude is in check. As we left, the gentleman who was behind the counter with her, followed us, and turned off the open sign at 8:25. We sat stunned in the parking lot for a few minutes discussing what just happened, floored as this was one of our favorite places to go when we still lived in Crystal Lake. This place was a favorite choice for a couple of our birthdays, at least one anniversary, and something we looked forward to every time we were in the area. I can safely say this is the rudest treatment I have received at a restaurant in my adult life. This is the last place I thought it would happen….. thank you for single-handedly negating every wonderful experience we had at your establishment through the years about 60 seconds flat. my attached picture has the 8:25 PM timestamp on the top from...
Read moreThe management staff is poor not only in training employees but also the way customers are treated. I visited there with my husband and two girls this evening for dinner. We spent $30 and only three of us ordered.
I received the incorrect sandwich from what I ordered and paid for....
I went to the counter to see if I possibly grabbed the wrong one. I mentioned it to her and she asked me what ticket number I was. She looked at the ticket and told me "that is what was on the ticket....so sorry." I would have eaten it except for it was covered in a ton of ranch dressing and bacon pieces. Disappointed I returned back to the table with my family and picked off the bacon as I didn't want to pay another $10 for sandwich. My husband said that we should pay for something that you don't even like. He went to the counter again and asked the lady again about the incorrect order. She responded with the same response..."sorry, that is what was on the ticket."
He came back to the table and apologized while offering me some of his sandwich. Meanwhile, the "so-called manager" came to our table and abruptly walked up and said that "she would make a new sandwich even though the ticket didn't have that sandwich on it."
At that time my family was already half done eating dinner and at this point I was so frustrated with being told that it was not on the ticket I just said "no that's ok we already had been to the counter two times to mention this." She the responded "well, you should have asked for a manager." Then she walked away and yelled to the kitchen to cancel the order loud and clear through the restaurant. At that point, we were so done with this place....we decided to pack up an leave.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I will never return. If you do decide to go just hope you get what you ordered. Their management and customer service is of the lowest standards in any restaurant I've been to in...
