Grand Buffet — Restaurant in McHenry

Without fail, every time I have been there, I am followed around the food selection counters by the woman who refills the food. I've been there several times over the past few years, with different friends/family members. She never does it to anyone in my party, except me. I have observed her doing it with other patrons as well on my visits. She seems to think anyone over a size 6 is going to eat everything on the tray in one trip, with one plate. The servers there also treat my entire party as if we are an inconvenience. We have had our plates taken before we even finish the food on them, our plates taken so quickly that food spills onto the table, our drinks, we refill ourselves, not sure if they are supposed to do it or not, as I've never had them even attempt it. The bathrooms are forever dirty, the floors are sticky, I would never eat from their soft serve machine, as it does not seem to ever be cleaned ands they are notorious for breeding bugs unless they are cleaned regularly. The food is passable as American Chinese-ish, and they're fairly cheap (for obvious reasons). Just don't expect a great atmosphere, any type of service, ...

Update 6/29/25 Removed a star due to recent high temp issues in there. It was super hot/humid in there the last two times I was in there. if it wasn't 80F and 80% humidity I'd be shocked. Very uncomfortable. I really hope they get this AC issue sorted out as It's not a place I'll be frequenting if I'm nearly sweating in the place.

Great and great price. The food was not just great for the price it was great at any price really. Everything was fresh and tasty from the chicken to the seafood to the sushi. I was actually quite shocked. Even the ice cream was very good. I will have to come again to make sure this wasn't a fluke but its the best buffet I've been to in a long time.

The lady offered to get us drinks multiple times and was always taking our old plates. Very good place that I actually didn't feel annoyed leaving a tip at.

To the people complaining that they had to get their own drinks; YOU ARE AT A BUFFET. You get up to get your food, the pop machine is about 5' from that food. How hard is it you...

Never in all my travels have I given a 1 star review, but this restaurant needs new management. My wife and I decided to eat here because we were just super hungry and wanted a lot to eat. It was a BIG MISTAKE. The food was hard and cold, like it was left out for hours. I had a few pot stickers and my wife had some shrimp. And in not even 5 whole minutes after eating there, my wife started to vomit outside. When we went back and asked to speak to a manager, they scoffed and said that nobody else got sick from their food, maybe we're just sick and we should go to the doctor. Are you kidding me?! Who says that to paying customers? Then, we asked to talk to the manager and HE LAUGHED AT US.

So we politely told them they will be hearing from the County Health Department and we will never eat there again and I warn ALL OF YOU: BEWARE because they don't care about their customers.
