Food is consistently good. Always cooked well, and serving size is generous. Of course, I came back! I was yearning for a steak and potato dinner, but lo and behold, it was Greek night! Totally changed my mind! I gobbled up the chicken lemon rice soup so I could start on the always perfect Mai-Tai! That was a win-win in my book. Next up was the Greek lemon baked chicken dinner. Included with the perfectly baked 1/2 chicken was a Greek salad, roasted veggies, pita bread. I really have it a good try, but I ended up taking more home than I was able to finish there! But wait, there's more. A nice size piece of Baklava was included with the meal. I only had room left for a taste. And yes, it filled that last little spot nicely. My server was Melissa. She suggested the baked lemon chicken, and she steered me to one of the most tasty and enjoyable dinners I've had in a while! Thank you, Melissa, and The Village Squire for a wonderful meal. I will be enjoying the leftovers for a couple of days! (I don't think the baklava will last quite as long!) I look forward to my next meal at The Squire!

First time visit was underwhelming. Let’s get the best part out of the way. The atmosphere was the best part of the visit. The decor was absolutely amazing. From the entrance to the tables. I couldn’t stop looking in every area. The fireplace is always a nice focal point. Service and food was mediocre at best. With the atmosphere so amazing, I was expecting the food to be just as good or even better but not in the least. Portions of steak fries were not consistent with other meals that came with them and the flavor of the chicken and rice was very disappointing with the lack of flavor. I had the Gyro wrap and it was a unique twist on the classic which was decent. We made it before it got busier however the service was a little slow. Until I give it another shot, I would not recommend.

The Village Squire – Come for the Atmosphere, Stay for the Food (and Drinks!) Let’s be real — people come to The Village Squire for the environment. And honestly, it’s worth it. For kids especially, it’s a memorable experience: wood walls, creaky floors, cozy booths, stained glass, and full suits of knight’s armor give it a medieval, storybook vibe that’s hard to forget. That said, the food holds its own. The saganaki is exactly what you’d expect — hot, cheesy, and delicious. The endless popcorn appetizer is a quirky, fun touch that feels nostalgic and just plain good. But my personal favorite? The Squire Drink Sampler. It’s the perfect way to try a bit of everything — a great mix of their best cocktails, and it always feels like a treat.

I drive over the road for sometimes weeks at a time, I was able to make it home the day before thanksgiving and wanted to give my wife a break before she had to cook thanksgiving dinner for the whole family. I wanted to enjoy a family dinner with my wife and 2 young daughters by ourselves . Living in McHenry there really isn’t much to choose from other than chain establishments, so we decided Village Squire, taking into consideration the social media complaints of people getting sick from the soup, we decided to chance it. The waitress was on the spot, the atmosphere was comfortable. We all ordered our food and when it came out mine was unfortunately wrong, completely wrong dinner! My family wanted to wait but I said go ahead and eat while it’s hot. My correct dinner (Grecian Salmon) didn’t show up for nearly 30 minutes after the rest of my family received there’s. I tried to find my waitress and tell her to just cancel my order after 15 minutes but she was nowhere to be found, so when she finally showed up with my meal I told here to just box’s it and give me a discount. The (lady) manager decided to remove my meal from my bill and throw it out! Instead of giving me a discount. I had ordered a George’s Rum Barell in a comereative cup in anticipation of dinner, which unfortunately arrived late. When I left I filled the commemorative cup with water from my daughters water cup, and upon leaving told the manager that I was going to leave an appropriate review on the nights dinning experience, she then followed me out into the parking lot arguing that she removed the item from my bill and I had nothing to complain about and that I was not allowed to leave with the comemerative cup, I told here that it was in there very own menu that it was a cup to take home, she then informed me she was going to call the police, I told her I would wait for them. After a few more words she retreated back into the restraunt, never to be seen again. This is just my experience, I hope you have a better, more enjoyable time with your family than I did. Happy...

Bar tender was slack at her job. Would take a beer order. (No mix drinks) And it would take over 10 minutes to receive (3) drafts. Are you absolutely kidding me. Came there to spend gladly over $100 on food and drinks. But to be dismissed on a simple beer order. And we could see her no problem lollygagging with her bar customers. We are the first bar top Starr ng right at her. And the restaurant was slow. Maybe 35 people dining. There is no excuse for slow drink service. Then she takes our orders and forgets to out in the appetizer. If you think your overworked. Ask for help. Crap service will ultimately get you a crappy tip. Of 5%. This is your money, make it. Put whatever is up your butt, aside and focus on making your living. You don't wanna be there, then quit. Food took an astonishing 47 minutes when it's 20 but design. For a table of 3. German potato salad is to be served near hot temp. Not sat around then served at cold temp. with a Luke warm meat dish. Even the sauerkraut was warm. Supposed to be served hot. It's like that for a reason. Anyways. Not worth going back to again. I do not being ignored, while twirling my empty beer glass for almost 10 full minutes, then having to spot the waitress and ask her if she could send the bar tender back to get another beer to wash down the food that was just sat in front of us. With nothing to drink it down with. And want even asked if we needed or wanted anything else, hence the request for another drink(s). Again it was 3 of us. Celebrating my brother's divorce. We planned on killing a keg to ourselves. But with the lack luster service we ended up going to a local bar on elm St. And generated a nice tip for the servers there. Who actually cared about their performance and maybe still had faith in their employer. Idk. Would not recommend the village squire in McHenry, solely on poor service at the bar. That particular employee should be dealt with. And allow someone else to fill in the role. Do much...

On nov 19th 2018 we decided to got to the McHenry Village Squire we have been to all the other's in the area, 1st we order Calamari no where on the menu states that there would be strips of deep fried ricered pepper and broccoli and a child size helping of Calamari, we ordered 2. 11oz prime rib dinners both with baked potato, our waitress was busy with other table's and someone else brought us our food 1st once the fat was trimmed off our steaks their was barely 8 1/2 oz of steak I am well aware how prime rib looks and I know it has fat on it, my veggies were look warm and really not cooked, my husband's cold, I was able to catch our waitress to voice my complaint about the color of my potato it was completely brown insid and to be honest who ever cut that potato could have clearly seen it, the waitress came back with a new potato which was well under cooked as the hubby started to add the butter to his he noticed his was also hardish and under cooked, the waitress not once asked us how our food was and only returned to our table when we asked for our check and take home containers, mind you she went to the three other tables that had 4 people sitting at them, brought them water walked past our table and didn't bother to refill our empty glasses, so 2 steak dinners at $23.99 each 2 drinks $13.98 Calamari $ 9.99. For a grand total of $77.35 and we were kind enough to leave her a $10.00 tip ( I use to be a waitress I know it can be tuff) so here is my main complaint why pay attention to 2 people when you can dote on the other table's as they each had 4 people at them, she isn't responsible for how the food was cooked wouldn't. Someone in the kitchen check the tempture of the food they are sending to table's or even notice a baked potato that was...
