So sorry to have to update my review of this place. I finally planned my birthday brunch here today and have been super excited. It was four of us and we all planned on getting apps, main courses, drinks and desserts because they all looked over the menu and came extra ready to have a blast. When I came in, I was earlier than the others and there was only one other table. The dj was already playing and I asked if she can play some soca which she did and I was loving the music but it was very loud. I thought it was so loud only because there weren't anyone else except that one other small table. Since I've come here before, I've never heard it this loud so I asked the servers if the dj was going to lower the volume when people started coming so we can at least hear eachother and they said yes, the music does get turned down. That didn't happen. The servers asked the dj twice to lower the music and she didn't. The manager then told the DJ to not lower the music and then the manager walked to our table and asked if there was a problem. We said, all we are asking is if the volume can be lowered just a little so we can hear eachother on the table and she blatantly refused saying others need to hear the music. She was rude and abrupt. I am Trinidadian and I am used to loud pumping music and I've been here before and this was obscene. Even the servers were acknowledging that it was too loud where people could not maintain conversations, at least where we were sitting. The owner was not there and it was clear that this manager was rude and not accommodating. I felt so disrespected because of how dismissive she was that all we wanted was to hear each other. We were excited about the food and the music and I was looking forward to having some of the homely feeling as I celebrate my bday. I was proud to bring my friends to a good Caribbean establishment since we had so little. I accepted that this was not the what I had hoped for so we paid for our drinks and left hungry and disrespected. We went to Taste of the Islands 15 mins away and was happy to sit and enjoy our delicious food.
I am leaving my earlier comment below because I know this was not the owner or the server's fault. I gave it 5 stars so this is how disappointed I am. I'm hoping that the restaurant takes action.
This is my go to place for a taste of home. While I'm Trinidadian, it's the closest I could get to good Caribbean food - curry goat, fried plantains and stew chicken. The jerk chicken and jerk pork here is the best I've ever had. A bit pricy but when demand is high i understand and they don't cut corners so expect to wait for your food since they actually cook it and not just throw things together. Oh and try the Rum Cake. If you have never tried it, it's an acquired taste, but if you know what I'm talking about, it''s exactly what you expect to get at Christmas...
Read moreI have visted this restaurant about 5/6 times in the past 3 months. Each time I have visited rather I ordered ahead or came in person the wait was extremely long, service was scarce or items missing but the food is always amazing (sometimes cold) but the flavor is good. Tonight I placed an order online for pick up. The 30-40min completion window had passed and had not received notification the food was ready but I still proceeded to the restaurant. When I arrived another customer walked in ahead of me and had a complaint that the food they gave him was not his. I sat down at the bar and had to flag someone down after waiting 5mins to have them check for my order. the server advised my food was still not ready yet. 5mins later he comes from the back with a bag. I check the bag and quickly realized this wasn't my order. The server takes the bag back into the kitchen and another 5mins later he grabs the bag that's been sitting on the bar the ENTIRE time that I had been there. THE SAME BAG THE MAN AHEAD OF ME BROUGHT BACK BECAUSE IT WASN'T HIS ORDER. I check and it's indeed my order. At this point I'm annoyed but I look past it because it's been over a hour since I ordered, im hungry! I don't know their policy but I do know that even fast food restaurants will not allow food that has left the restaurant to be served to another customer. I get home and begin eating only to find a HAIR in my food. I immediately drive back up there and let them know the situation. The manager MARSHA refused to refund me for my order & only offered to refund the rasta pasta that had hair in it because I only brought the pasta back with me. This food had already been served to another customer so it shoud've NEVER been served to me in the first place. I had my husband bring the other items back because at this point I don't want any of it. Marsha advised that she would only refund the rasta pasta but I would have to wait until tomorrow. extremely unprofessional and unsanitary. the food is good but they need a new system to manage their crowd the wait is always extreme and if they are okay with reserving food that has left the restaurant to customers there is no telling what other unsanitary things they allow in their kitchen. I'm disgusted with the way this situation was handled. please proceed with caution dining here. as I type this I still have not received my refund for anything!! Update* Marsha let’s not forget you told me “F* you B**” and threatened to call the police on me. Don’t they to come back 5 months later replying to reviews to do damage control. I still will make sure every review outlet is known of my...
Read moreI have eaten at the Reggae Jerk Hut (RJH) restaurant several times since it opened in McKinney. My family has been so excited to have an authentic and fine representation of Jamaican cuisine here in Collin County.
I’ve found that the dine-in experience is wonderful. The food is delicious; the service is great. However pick-up/delivery is entirely different. On two occasions, I received sub-par food - one pickup and one delivery: OXTAILS, consisting of mostly bones; and more recently, JERK PORK, which was literally huge junks of FAT and skin! The small slivers of actual meat I received were tough, and almost laughable (had I not been so upset and disappointed).
These experiences are no exaggeration. I am quite liberal with reviews, understanding issues restaurant staff contend with. But I cannot, in ANY way excuse RJH serving such meals to their take-out or delivery patrons - IDK, is this because the customers may not demand the food returned (too much of a hassle)? I know if I’d received those meatless oxtails and fat chunks disguised as jerk pork during dine-in, I would request it returned for another meal. In fact, had I been able to go to the restaurant after this last meal delivery, I would have done so; however I am currently disabled due to surgery. I called the restaurant incessantly, literally in excess of 20+ times, reaching a busy signal. The following day I called repeatedly and received no answer, nor an option to leave a message. By the way, this too, is unacceptable for a business establishment. Hopefully this communication issue is an exception for RJH.
I was not only upset about receiving inedible food. I was embarrassed on the last occasion because the meal was a gift to me. I am unable to cook or stand during early post-op; a dear friend asked for one of my fav restaurants so she could bless me with a meal. She’d never eaten at RJH, and I ranted about the food (not even mentioning the initial delivery experience with the oxtail bones…I do know how oxtails can be!).
I rarely complain about food, merchandise, services, etc. It has to be bad, or downright egregious for me to do so. However, I cannot ignore this. It was just that. The large Fat/Skin chunks should have never been served to anyone!
Please, RJH this has to...
