Rakestraw's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Mechanicsburg

Had an absolutely terrible, embarrassing experience. First, the menu/prices are not well displayed (probably where this entire awful experience started). My wife ordered a dish of ice cream and I order a waffle cone with ice cream. The total came out to just under $15. I asked the gentleman how it was that expensive because a waffle cone was $2.16. He informed me that that was the price of just the cone and that a waffle cone had 2 scoops. I told him that i only had $10 and then asked them for 1 scoop of ice cream along with my wife’s ice cream. In the meantime, I am trying to look and understand the menu with no luck. The price came out to be over $12. I told the gentleman again that I only have $10 and couldn’t understand how 2 small dishes of ice cream was over $12, so I asked and then found out that one of my dishes was limited edition. I told him that I just want 1 scoop of normal ice cream in a dish. Which he then did. As that was happening, I was again looking at the menu. The menu said 1 scoop dish was $4.72. With 2 dishes, I had enough with my $10 ($4.72 plus tax comes out to $10 exactly). He came back with the ice cream and told me the total was $11.83 or something like that. Which I responded to him for the third time “I only have $10”. His response to me was “Take the other dish, you’re done” and shut the window. I have never in my life been to a place where I was treated this way by a restaurant employee. I was obviously confused and not understanding the menu. I am definitely at fault for that. We had an older women serve us and as we were looking at the menu she was rushing us to order. Once we had all decided on what we wanted (which took a while because the menu is not clear or easy to read ) we started ordering and she proceeded to tell us that the items we wanted where not available. They weren’t crossed off or marked as such. We changed our orders to fit what they had (rush and talked down to while doing so) once we got our ice creams, that same old lady was so nice and helpful towards the other customers. This place is one of the local favorite for many decades. I like all the flavor I tried, such as teaberry, butter pecan, chocolate. They also have shurrbet, I tried orange and lemon with crushed Oreo cookies in it. They were very good, not too sweet nor over flavored. You can have them in a cone or in a dish. The last time I went they have limited edition flavors. It will be interesting to see what other flavors they will have when we go again. Although their is no place to sit but many people sit in the parking lot, in their car or outside, enjoying the ice cream they bought. Their place is also clean and the service has always been great.
