Probably not a fair assessment since I haven't dined here for several years. My wife and I experienced this restaurant when they first opened and we found after a handful of repeat visits that their dishes tended to be a bit too salty for our taste. A little time after establishing themselves, they hired a new chef in which the food improved in taste and quality but still seemed salty even when we compared to other chinese food restaurants in Mechanicsville just to make sure we didn't have a biased opinion. Needless to say, this is why I have not revisited. My wife gets a craving for sushi and visits when they run specials certain nights during the week (I don't know if they still run the specials). My wife says the sushi is pretty good considering ...not the best but certainly much better than the convenient alternative at Kroger. Several of my neighbors rave about the place and say they have added an array of asian based foods that span several asian cultures...maybe it's time to give it another try and update my rating at...
Read moreHad Hunan chicken for lunch special. Husband had Sesame chicken. His was really hot and good. I asked for no rice. When I received my order, all the food was only on the left side of plate. You would assume presentation counted. My first bite was ice cold. Sauce was cold which was not pleasant. There were few vegetable and broccoli was mushy. Mushrooms looked stale and old. No carrots were to be seen. I waited for the waitress to come back so I could get my dish warmed up. I waited and waited. Finally I tried to eat before the food got even colder. My husband finished his dish, so I finally flagged the waitress. I had half my meal not eaten. I explained I didn't enjoy cold food. Instead of at least taking my dish off the bill, I was told the manager thought my dish was made first and sat while my husband's dish was being prepared. Manager advised she would let the kitchen know. Don't you think they knew already? Isn't it normal to make sure all food comes out hot at the same time. What a...
Read moreGinger Red has the absolute best Asian food around, hands down. The prices are great, the quality of ingredients is Grade A and above, and the flavors are a combination of all that is right in the world. Their sushi rolls are fantastic and they even offer a lunch roll combo and a dinner roll combo, which is a great way to have a light, fresh, flavorful meal or to really have an awesome shareable appetizer. The Hot and Sour soup is also out of this world and they have the only Hokkaido style Egg Drop soup in town; flavored with corn, black pepper, and butter. It's worth the trip alone for a bowl of soup, a sushi roll or two, and the passionfruit tea.
