EDIT #2: I've given up on ordering Pat Pong so I've tried their Pad Thai several times. Every time it comes out a strange white color and appears to have no sauce on it. I finally took it back in person after driving 40 minutes round trip, and the lady explained that they use "clear" sauce which is why it looks different than their country style Pad Thai which has the traditional orange look. No other restaurant on the planet makes Pad Thai that looks this way, but whatever. I tasted it and there is some kind of sauce on it, but it tastes nothing like Pad Thai to me. I ended up throwing most of it out. I did appreciate the free potstickers as compensation.
EDIT: I am done giving this location any more chances. There is ALWAYS something wrong, without fail, everytime I walk into this establishment. Tonight, the issue happened before the food even reached my hands.
I arrived tonight for a curbside pickup order for my mom (not for me, because as you will read below, they never get my order right). Waited in my car for 10 minutes, then went inside to see what was going on. The hostess said she was waiting for me to call back (what?) so that she could tell me that my order was not in the system (how am I supposed to know that?). After some digging, it turns out my order had been made and then given to someone. So now I was food-less and another customer had the wrong order (and a free meal they never asked for I guess). The hostess was very nice throughout all of this, but said she couldn't give me any kind of compensation because her boss doesn't allow it due to the "confusing" online software they use. Of course, because that would require them actually caring about their customers.
Never, ever, EVER again!
I am very sorry to be giving this establishment a two star rating, but I have been let down every single visit so far. I love the Strongsville location, so I was ecstatic when they opened another Sweet Mango in my home town, Medina. However, the three times I have visited in the last five months, my meal has consistently been wrong.
I've been ordering the Pat Pong dish at the Strongsville location since 2012. I ask for 0 stars on the spice level and I receive a dish that is not spicy whatsoever. Yet, at the Medina location, when I ask for 0 stars in my Pat Pong, I get a dish that is moderately spicy, every time, without fail. To me, moderately spicy is very spicy (I don't like spicy food at all), so it's kind of hard to enjoy my meal.
I believe the problem is the addition of what looks like red pepper flakes. I've never seen red pepper flakes added to the Pat Pong at the Strongsville location, but they have been visibly noticeable every time I've ordered the dish at the Medina location. I've attached a photo of what I believe is a red pepper flake found in the dish, as well as a seed that also looks like it comes from some sort of hot pepper. I don't know why red pepper flakes continue to be added to my Pat Pong in Medina when I specifically request for a dish that isn't spicy at all. Maybe the spice level is calculated different at the Medina location, but my dish has been WAY hotter than it ever was in Strongsville.
Three strikes, you're out. I will continue visiting the Strongsville location but will skip the Medina one until this issue...
Read moreThis is some of the worst Thai food I have ever eaten. It was absolutely disgusting. The Tom khar gai soup used to have straw mushrooms in it, but now it's a few slices of dry button mushrooms. The summer rolls hardly have any shrimp, basil or vermicelli in them and are flavorless. I hate how they cut them up and have the rice paper stick together. The pad Thai country style was inedible. Two shrimp in an entire huge plate of mushy noodles that were broken up like cutting pasta for a child and totally overcooked. And when I ordered a 4 out of 5 spice, they just added chili oil instead of using peppers, so the whole plate was swimming in oil. The tofu was dry and desiccated. I picked it out. It was like eating leather. The service was terrible. I asked for hot sauce or chili garlic sauce. She tried to bring chili oil and crushed red pepper. I asked for lots of it because I puy it on everything. I got a tablespoon full that I used in my soup and had to ask for it again because she didn't bring it. Then I just asked for sriracha so i could use it on my summer rolls. What she brought was runny with a weird taste and not real sriracha. I did not eat it. She asked how the food was. I was honest and said this is not real Thai and asked if this is what she eats at home. She argued with me, defended the food, and said they made it for American palates. I am American but know good, real, quality food. This is not it. I have eaten lots of Thai food in almost every restaurant in the area and have had authentic Thai. This is dog food. They did nothing to make it right or discount the bill then asked if i wanted a box. I paid $26 for disgusting food. I showed her the pools of oil coating the plate. She just shrugged and walked away. I will never go back. The food was not this bad a few years ago. Never amazing and always bad service but now it is a waste of...
Read moreThis unassuming gem is hidden in a classic American strip mall. The quality of the service from the moment you walk in is what you've been subconsciously wishing for at most other sit down restaurants. The sweet woman who plays hostess was also our waitress. She was communicative, informative, and quick to refill water glasses. We're new to Thai food and probably played it safe. My son's pineapple chicken came with a small cone of steamed white rice. (Why is a cone so cute?) As she passed she said, almost conspiratorially, "we use the rice to soak up the sauce," in a familial way, like she was sharing a bit of culture. The food was quick and hot and the portions were well presented and substantial for the price. While the decor was simple, it was beautiful. There was a pleasant generic piano soundtrack that clearly wasn't Asian yet somehow made the whole place feel like a fancy French restaurant from a TV show- in a good way. A simple mango ice cream finished us off and we got out for $41 with a generous tip. I'd share photos but I was literally too distracted by my food to remember...
