Siam Orchid- Melbourne- 4 Stars
Rising like the proverbial Phoenix from the ashes of adversity, Siam Orchid has bounced back from their minor troubles in 2011 to, at this point, lead the pack of reviewed restaurants in best sushi place in Brevard County. Up till this point the leader has been the joint Beachside, however; two recent trips have been unsteady and have allowed Siam Orchid, at least in the Big Boy's mind, to take the lead. Siam Orchid has been at this location for over 18 years. The fish is exceedingly fresh and the service is always commendable. Generally speaking, in these Thai-sushi hybrid places there is somewhat of a language barrier between staff and customers. Not so here. I have been here three times since March 7, 2018 and I have had consistently good service and a great meal every time. What would truly tickle me is to see an Oriental-Asian speaking Hispanic server/chef. That would really impress me! Anyway, at this point you must be wondering what I ordered. As a dedicated Big Boy follower, you should know my baseline Sushi order is (drumroll): JB Roll, Spicy Tuna Handroll and a random specialty roll, which, in this case, was the Siam Orchid Roll. The latter is an amazing tempura style roll filled with shrimp, fresh water eel, spicy mayo, and asparagus inside with some fried snapper on top. This is delish!! The Hand roll was prepared perfectly with no unwelcomed surprises. The JB was a winner as well. Siam Orchid does get slammed at lunch, so if you are planning on following the Big Boy to Siam Orchid for lunch-- there will be a wait, but it's worth it. Big Boy says....

If I could give Siam Orchid more than five stars, I absolutely would. This place is not just a restaurant—it nurtures my soul (and stomach). Want to celebrate? Eat at Siam Orchid. Need a comforting meal? Siam Orchid. Don’t want to cook? Siam Orchid. I could genuinely eat here multiple times a week (and I have).
The food? Always amazing. The flavors? Consistently delicious. The service? They might as well be family.
Let’s talk about one of my go-to orders: the chicken Thai noodle soup. 🍜 Around here, I call it “Sarah style” 🤣 (yes, that’s me). I get it with fried garlic, broccoli, and the rich, comforting brown broth. Pro tip: toss in some chili flakes for a spicy kick that takes it over the top. It’s totally nom nom yummy delish.
The green curry is also amazing—creamy, aromatic, with just the right amount of heat. I swap out the bamboo shoots with carrots and it’s delicious.
And the noodle dishes? All of them. Doesn’t matter which one. You can’t go wrong.
End your dinner with the banana tempura and ice cream. It’s like a warm cozy hug in every bite. 🍌🍨
I’m not exaggerating when I say my coworker and I once ate lunch takeout here five days in a row. (We were pretty proud of our streak). But if you dine in? You get two dumplings AND a soup of the day. The lunch special is undefeated. 🥟🍲
Siam Orchid is the kind of place that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit, and keeps you coming back for more. Pure Thai...
Read moreWe only tried the sushi, sashimi, and maki so I'm not sure how the Thai food is. We got a double boat for 2. The miso soup was over salted. The sashimi came with tuna (very good), salmon (Atlantic and smooth but not that tasty), snapper (some tough pieces that should not have been served as sashimi), and something they call white tuna.
From various articles and related links about 'whitetuna' I've concluded that I was served Escolar. It certainly was not albacore tuna. It would have been nice to have been warned about the effects of eating that fish before it was served to us. At least now I know what to look out for.
It also came with 3 maki rolls. The JB roll had salmon and cream cheese (good enough). The California roll came with avocado, fake crab, cucumber, and some small orange fish eggs (tasty). The final was a fried maki roll with cream cheese and mostly cooked salmon inside (tasty tempura and overall good roll).
The sushi was pretty typical but I was disappointed that no octopus came with the random selection. The eel was very good and tasted fresh (not super fishy). The crab was the fake stuff again unfortunately but tasted fine enough.
Overall I wasn't really impressed with anything. It was pretty typical sushi, nothing really above average. I was hoping for something more based on the reviews. I've had much better sushi in other places (outside of the...
