Gourmet Cheese Steak & Pizza Company- Melbourne- 4 Stars I am not abstemious in my eating habits. For the Big Boy it's, well, Go "Big" or Go Home. That is why I like the Gourmet Cheese Steak & Pizza Company. This is the type of place my father longs for: Copious amounts of food prepared quickly and inexpensively. The owner of this restaurant, Christine, has hit on a successful formula of taking normal truck-delivered ingredients, creating mouth-watering recipes and delivering low cost, toothsome food--and lots of it. This joint is located in the old Lum's building on Babcock, for you old timers. The decor is no great shakes and the tables are early Wendy's. Seriously, the tables are actually the original Wendy's tables from the 1980's with the faux newsprint design. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza, a sloppy joe, and--of course--a cheese steak.
Let's start with the cheese steak. Now, I know there are great arguments over cheese steak. I can only speak to the panorama of steaks I have consumed in Florida. I am going to go out on a limb and state that this particular cheese steak is my favorite in Brevard. The steak and peppers are succulent and flavorful. The provolone is melted lovingly inside. There is so much meat you really need a fork to eat it all. I would have preferred for this masterpiece to be presented on a prepared roll, but hey, it is what it is.
Next, let's address the sloppy joe. You don't normally see sloppy joes on a menu, yet I consider it one of my all time favorite comfort foods. This joe is spiced and sauced spot on. The down side, once again, is the bun. It was taken out of a package and had the meaty concoction slapped on it. I submit that this carnivore's delight would have been even more delectable toasted or grilled with a dab of butter. Who knows? I am a reviewer, not a chef. Bottom line is that it was still good.
Finally, we come to the pizza. Fresh dough, adequate ingredients, good presentation. Executed flawlessly.
At this point, I know you are asking, "Hey, Big Boy, why not five stars?" Well, in this situation I just can't pull the trigger. It's good but it's not a restaurant I can confidently certify 5 Stars, especially with the bun situation being the way it is. That being said, Big Boy says to give the cheese steak a whirl and let me know...
Read moreGonna start off by saying I was born and raised on the Jersey shore. The boardwalk pizza joints there have a very unique and amazing taste that only NYC can really replicate. I've lived in Florida for 6 years and never found somewhere that makes pizza even close to NJ or NY style even when they say they do. I stopped by here for lunch ready to be disappointed again and was shocked at how it tasted EXACTLY like all my childhood pizza places. Felt like I was at Manco and Mancos on the Ocean City boardwalk making fun of tourists and shoobies like I did back when I was 15. I can't vouch for the cheesesteak because I haven't had it (yet) but seriously, this was the best pizza I've had in Florida and I've had a LOT of pizza. I tried a piece in the parking lot and had to run back inside just to tell them how much I loved it. Also, the service was great, both the woman at the front and the cook were incredibly friendly even though they were really busy, my food got to me very fast and very fresh (it burned the top of my mouth lol) and the prices don't reflect how amazing their food is. $3.50 may sound like a lot for a single slice until you realize one piece is nearly half a pizza. Considering they're right across the street from work you can bet I'll be going back as much...
Read moreEvery chance I get I tell people about this place. I would encourage everyone to try here. Their prices on right on par, and the pizza is honestly top tier.
If you want straight up pizza shop pizza this is it. Look at the pictures. It tastes exactly like those pictures look. It's got the perfect amount of cheese, crunch, sauce, everything.
This is the pizza you get to throw down on the island with a pile of paper plates, roll of paper towels, and dive in.
It is the only pizza I have had in the area that I don't put anything on. Whether it be Adobo, garlic powder, parmesean. Nothing.
Alright pants are starting to get tight, gotta move on here.
We always get delivery but went in once. It's a little pizza shop with a small eating area. You don't take your picky rich aunt Debbie to eat here. You get take out.
With that being said the one time I ever went in the guy was so nice. We chatted a bit and I went on my way.
We get them once a month and have done so for about 2 years ide say. To be fair ONE, and honestly ONE time the crust was slightly brown. Not burnt, but had a chip like crunch. Doesn't even matter. If you can consistently bang out pizza this amazing,...
