P.S. I was being kind when I said the food was good. Good is synonymous with OK. In fact, we were both unimpressed and hoped to give it another chance. I stand by every word. My daughters do as well. Do what you will with it. I have a record of giving reviews that you can research.
My young adult daughter and I, had visited during her trip in December, 2024. The tea selection was excellent. Who doesn't love Harney & Sons? But the food was lackluster and tasted like leftovers.
In addition, when they asked us how we heard about your establishment, I mentioned a post on Facebook 321 flavor group. Our server who identified herself as the mother of the owner indicated that she had posted it. That was a bit of a gut punch, because yeah, then I felt misled by a fake 'review'. She has posted there at least on 3 occasions and two of them look clearly like a customer's experience. Certainly not the owner's mom.
But I was willing to give it another try. This time I was bringing my other adult daughter who is newly engaged. Unfortunately her airline return trip was modified and instead of leaving in the early evening, was now leaving at eight in the morning. Nothing I can do about that. I explained this fully in my cancellation email. I was very surprised to be charged in full for a reservation canceled several days in advance. That was in January, 2025, and would have been my second trip to your establishment. I heard nothing further on the matter.
Now heading into May both daughters are going to be in town and I made a new reservation, for three. I mentioned in the notes that I was coming back after the cancellation in January. (I mentioned this merely to connect the dots, not asking for anything in return). What I got in return was a tersely worded text message stating, "please call me today regarding your Friday reservation at The Chic Teacup and the nature of its payment. If not, your reservation will be cancelled." This message was sent to the entire party. My daughters were both surprised at the aggressive tone. Further, when I texted Gail about the particulars, she insisted that I would not be getting the $90 credit towards my bill. I had never requested it. She also stated that credits were only good for 30 days. Again, never knew I had a credit. So, at this point I'm wondering if we are even going to enjoy going back to the place, when I received a phone call from Gail. She asked if there was anything else I wanted to say because she was tired of texting me about it. Just wow. Like one minute of text messages. So I said, yes, actually. I want to cancel our new reservation.
I did not ask for you to refund me the $90 from January. And I was never told I had a credit nor a deadline in which to use it. And now I'm just feeling like there is no further experiences that I want from this establishment. So thanks for messing up our weekend plans. I was really trying to see how things turned out as the business gets its footing. The answer? Bad customer service is now also on the menu.
So my review is this: don't plan on having a nice experience. Plan on the decor being less than it should be. Plan on the food tasting like it was made with no love and long before you arrived. Plan on not going back again and feeling like you paid way more than it was worth for...
Read moreDelicious high tea. The egg salad sandwich on wheat was my favorite of the savories. Two fantastic scones (almond and cranberry) that are tough for me to decide which was better. Chantilly cream was also excellent. The desserts were all wonderful; my favorite was the lavender mousse.
There was a diverse list of teas with a handy Rolodex detailing each which helped keep the menu clean looking. I had three teas, all of which were very good, and you are allowed as many pots as you like. Each pot serves two cups, so it is easy to try multiple flavors which you can complement to the style of food you are eating (savory or sweet).
The room is decorated very nicely for the holiday season with lots of gold, red, white, and green. There is a restroom in the suite which is also convenient considering our regular tea room requires you to enter another area with a password to access the restroom.
It is very nice to have a tea room in the Melbourne area. We usually go every other month to Orlando, but now we’ll be able to have a tea more regularly. Pricing and quality is comparable to tea rooms in Orlando, so this is easily a...
Read moreThe Chic Teacup is a delightful tearoom located in North Melbourne. Two friends and I had a great afternoon enjoying delicious food and hot tea’s. We made our reservation online. The tearoom is clean and the white tables and chairs were tastefully decorated with hearts for Valentines for the month of February. There was music quietly playing and the owner, Gail, greeted us when we arrived. Food was brought to us on a 3 tier serving plate and there were plenty of sandwiches, scones and desserts for all of us to enjoy. We took some home as we could not eat everything. There is also a long list of tea’s that you may choose from - what a great idea! I highly recommend this tearoom for an afternoon out with friends. It’s so nice that Melbourne has a great...
