The Salty Fox- Downtown Eau Gallie- 5 Stars HIDDEN GEM ALERT My gnosis of good food is occasionally challenged by a small cadre of followers who enjoy cheap tasteless food. To wit: Subway, Jimmy John's or Jersey Mikes. I am proud to say I know good food when I find it. It is not hard to prepare original flavorful food. The rub? You have to care about what you serve. The ladies who own the Salty Fox pull this off fantastically. The bad first: This is a noisy pub in the Eau Gallie Arts District and the blaring music and less than stellar service by Stephanie will frustrate some of my followers. However, if you are patient and work with the system, you will find some original dishes, old dishes with a new spin, and a giant selection of craft (I hate that term personally) beer. I started off with Thai chicken noodle soup. When I hear names of things you do not normally associate together I think of the fragrance "Lime Basil & Mandarin," which is a unique scent I always fall hard for. The Thai Chicken soup is an old time chicken soup with a Thai spiced broth and noodles that really sings in your mouth. This was a special--not on the regular menu--and it was good. A menu item that piqued my interest was the lazy deviled eggs. These are hard boiled eggs topped with bacon and a homemade hot sauce that grabbed me with the first bite and refused to let go. They were flavorful and executed with precision. I also ordered the tuna melt. This was a traditional melt yet it was seasoned with a kick in the tookus. Fresh lettuce and tomato go along for the ride. The Big Boy really enjoyed this divey gastropub to the fullest extent possible. Great time, great food....
Read moreSaw this place on google and all the great reviews, looked at the menu and thought it would be a great place to try. We walked in (party of four). The bar was pretty empty, save for the bartender and one patron that was standing awkwardly near the bar and swaying back and forth like he was already half in the bag. We stood at the door for a moment for someone to greet us, show us where to sit, or anything along those lines. Nothing. So we walked into the other room past the swaying guy and even pulled some chairs out as if to seat ourselves. There was someone in the back of that bar area too, but they saw us walk by and also said nothing. After about 5 minutes of awkward silence and stares, we decided to leave and go next door to Intracoastal Brewing instead. Very odd experience. Maybe they were closed and forgot to lock their doors? Who knows. We never will, because we won’t go back. Too bad, because we really wanted to try that Mac and cheese panini. Do yourself a favor and just go to the brewery instead. Much nicer atmosphere and the people actually talk back instead of stare at you like...
Read moreGoing down hill for some reason. I used to like stopping in here during the slow hours. Not when it's busy. Just for a good beer selection and interesting snacks. I hope they get back to where they were a few years ago. The last 4 times I came in there were problems with taps or service or something. Today was hot. I needed to cool off and have a pint. I'm grateful they were there for it but it was warm inside, the bar seemed sad and sticky like an untended lover left tied in a dungeon too long without water or something. Zero vibe. I used to seek out a good dive and I used to really like this one. It's just getting too... Sticky. Foxer needs a refresh. Whoever owns the building should also chop in on AC because of that stuff kills the business you're gonna have another hole in another wall. Landlords are problematic in this industry and for the immense rents they charge, they can certainly afford to help with building related matters. But they don't because that's not the law here. Sadface.jpg but it's a legit 3. Still would bang but not gonna...
