This hotel is a bit of a odd. They have really nice facilities as well as interesting theming and decor. The price was pretty reasonable too (except for the $50 resort fee which seems a bit high relative to their amenities).
The restaurant, however, is abismal. There are two and I didn't try the other but I'm pretty sure the experience would be similar. I had a party of 7. When I reported this to the host they looked shocked and unsure what to do. Despite the place being relatively empty it took 15 minutes to push 2 tables together. After that we were seated with no silverware or menus. The waitress was nice and friendly but we waited like an hour for the food. During our wait there was a basket of delicious rolls similar to the ones at Red Lobster but actually a bit better. We quickly ate the rolls but the basket sat there empty for the rest of the wait. The pork chop wasn't bad, one of the better ones I've had but after waiting for that long I was in too foul of a mood to enjoy it. I really don't get what took so long, the place wasn't busy. What do they do after they take your order? Set a 30 minute timer and then start cooking it?
Then the bill came. Prices are definitely too high for the quality of food and the insanely slow service.
I also had breakfast at the same restaurant because it was included in the price of the room. Some of the buffet items were okay but the sausage was downright inedible. It was like eating mushy particle board with no seasoning. The service in the morning was better but still pretty slow.
I don't blame any of the staff, they are all reasonably friendly and I think they're doing their best. This place is suffering badly from the lack of a coherent system under which to operate the restaurant and the rest of the facility. If management set some procedures up and trained the staff this place could be turned around. It's sad to see a place with such potential fail so badly.
I also found the racial dynamics a bit disturbing. Nearly 100% of the staff is black and nearly 100% of the clientele is white. It made me feel like we were stuck in a pre-civil rights segregationist resort. I don't really think it was on purpose but it felt wrong. I've never been anywhere where the race / class divide felt so stark. Maybe it's just that old white people...
Read moreCame here for dessert because they had cheesecake on the menu. It was simply okay.
Came the next morning for the breakfast buffet. My god. Horror show.
For the price of breakfast buffet here ($22) it is self serve with a limited selection.
I filled a plate with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and an apple danish.
The eggs were greasy and cold by the time I even reached my table to sit down again. Unflattering texture to them, and overall unpleasant.
The bacon LOOKED like bacon, and tasted like vaguely bacon flavored cardboard. Dry, soulless and rigid. Couldn't finish what I'd grabbed.
The danish was a sad, poor excuse for a danish, like one I'd expect out of a cheapo package at a dollar store. Virtually no filling, and dry, unpleasant to eat.
As a single man sat in the establishment, they sat me beside the kitchen at a table for four, with no condiments set out, or offered to me.
I was reluctantly served by one of the rotating staff. I was offered "orange juice" that tasted like vaguely orange flavored water, and ice water.
As I sat here digesting the experience, the manager of the establishment came by, and I let him know all of this as well. So there's that at least.
Oh, and before I forget! There was a screaming match in the kitchen behind me, when one of the waitresses went MIA for ten plus minutes, leaving three tables unserved that had been sat. That was super professional ./s
Overall? Save your money. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else, but not the hotels grab and go breakfast...
Read moreDelta’s Kitchen was a cozy and welcoming experience overall. We came down around 8 AM on a Saturday, and the initial hostess attempted to seat us at the first table near the doorway. That did not sit right with me, especially when I noticed plenty of open booths and tables just around the corner. We did not sit there and instead moved around the corner to look and ended up in a comfortable semi-circle booth.
The breakfast buffet was self-serve and well-stocked with hot, fresh options. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, grits, biscuits with gravy, pastries, and a variety of fruit, yogurt, cereal, and milk. The juice bar offered orange, cranberry, and apple juice, and there was also an omelet station with an attendant.
Our waitress Erika was fantastic. She was very attentive and checked on us often. My coffee was bold and flavorful, not some weak and watered-down brew. My wife’s sweet tea was not quite sweet enough, but to be fair, we like ours to be diabetic.
The only drawback was the seating arrangement. While the semi-circle booths gave some privacy, the central tables felt a little too close together, making the atmosphere slightly awkward. Still, the food and service made up for it, and I would...
