I first discovered this small Mexican restaurant through UberEats when I ordered lunch one afternoon. It’s a neat, cozy spot on Summer Avenue — simple but feels authentically Mexican. I ordered the carne asada platter, and when I got home, the food was still hot and fresh. The thinly sliced steak was a little on the tougher side but flavorful and well-seasoned. It came with Mexican rice, bean paste, and a fresh salad with crisp lettuce, plus grilled onions and peppers that were absolutely delicious. Their house-made salsa was excellent — and that’s usually how I judge a good Mexican restaurant!
The portions were generous, easily enough for one person or to share. Everything tasted fresh, so I was really happy with the meal. I enjoyed it so much that my husband and I decided to visit the restaurant in person the next evening for dinner.
We started with complimentary chips and salsa — again, the salsa was fantastic. We both ordered the carne asada platter again, and this time it was even better — freshly prepared, tender, and full of flavor. Another friend tried four tacos (two al pastor and two chorizo). The tacos were tasty, though not the best I’ve had, but still solid. Their green salsa added a great kick to everything.
We ended the meal with their house-made flan, which was incredible — smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweet.
Overall, this place is a gem for anyone who loves authentic Mexican food. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made with care — and whatever you do, don’t miss the flan. It’s the perfect finish to...
Read moreTravelling back from Virginia to Texas we were looking for some Mexican food. We happened to find this establishment. Now if you know anything about Texas, Tex-Mex is not something to compare with. So of course we were hesitant to say the least. Ordered a chicken burrito with hashbrowns, eggs and avocado for myself, and chilaquiles for my beautiful wife. I'm a huge fan of crispity-crunchity hashbrowns that most places don't take the time to learn or appreciate this delectable side dish. But La Palapa aced it! The 10 pound burrito was simply amazing with all kinds of flavor competing for my attention. Michelin star for sure. The chilaquiles were also bursting with well rounded seasoning that was a perfect match. With the staff being so pleasant, and the cute establishment, this for sure was a winner...
Read moreMy partner and I went to La Palapa last week for lunch. My partner got a lunch special, soft corn tacos de carne asada, beans, salad, and rice. I got three tacos de barbacoa, (wonderfully condimented shredded beef), rice, salad, and beans. It was great! Before the meal, which the cook and owner whipped up really fast, Lilly, our sweet, pretty waitress, brought us salsa and chips, of course. They were fresh and very tasty. The rice was fluffy, the beans well made delicious, topped with a little cheese. I highly recommend la Palapa. It’s a nice little place and the prices reasonable. They’re sure to give La Guadalupana a run for...
