I have been going to Tops on Union now for a long time about once a week. Way back they had a manager that really took care of things. Food was often ready as soon as we finished ordering. She would also run off any panhandlers. After she left it started to go downhill. There were times when there was a long line of people waiting at the counter and the guy taking orders would completely ignore them. He would answer the phone. He would get orders together all while ignoring the people in line. He's no longer there and there have been some good managers. Lately though it has gotten ridiculous. Should it really take 45 minutes to get a BBQ sandwich when it really wasn't that busy. Several people walked out. One asked for a refund and the manager was not nice about it but rather deciding to get into a confrontation with the customer. There was no one chopping BBQ. Order comes finally and something always seems to be wrong with it. There are no napkins in the bag or on the table so you have to go wait in line again to get napkins. There are no salt and pepper shakers on the tables or ketchup bottles. You order double-fries and you get single fries. Other things I have noticed. It used to be every time you ordered a burger they would throw it on the flat top and cook it. Now, they pre-cook them and throw them back on the flat top to reheat them. French fries are sometimes hot, sometimes cold, oftentimes over-cooked. Sometimes there are maybe 8 fries, other times there are 12-16 in a bag. Asked for extra sauce (another long wait) and received one sweet and one hot because I assume that is what they grabbed first. Sometimes you will get 4 ketchup packets, sometimes you will get 12. Sometimes they call you by name when your order is ready. Sometimes they call you by number. Sometimes they don't call you at all, instead you have to go ask them which first requires getting someone's attention often following by someone's uncaring attitude.

I give them really 1 star based on how they are running now but bump that up to 2 stars based on their past. They really need to get the management over there under control because they tend to make it impossible to go there and get a meal, eat that meal in the 1 hour window that a lot of people in the area get. A lot of those people will probably...

Place a online order May 21,2024 at 6 pm for a jr burger and regular bbq sandwich and large drink . Pulled up back door propped open with orange parking cone I worked at tops for 10 years and know this is Not allowed unless a delivery is being made didn't they just get robbed a couple of weeks ago because of this....Stand in line the cashier was rude she gave me my bag I asked for my cup she said"you only got sandwiches" I don't need to steal a $3 drink so I go to my car to get my phone to show her on the receipt she don't acknowledge me but telling the young lady on the grill she said she got a drink but it ain't on her ticket the lady gets off the grill to give me a cup hands me a cup I told her it supposed to be a large cup had to show proof again. Bbq sandwich was cold and mostly hard meat burger had no seasoning asked for extra pickles and onions had 3 pickles and didn't taste no onions at all. I guess since the new owners took over customer service has gone out the door . Baby Mr.Messick is turning over in his grave about this store and the poor customer service the ticket said Kelly was the server but the cashier was a heavy set...

I'm only commenting because it's truly sad that people are choosing to fail themselves. We have Google! You can literally learn much valuable information. The cashier gave me the smallest portion of slaw when I ordered a pint. She looked at me with the worst attitude and said "that is a pint" and went right back to her task. The manager immediately came over and corrected it. My point is, the lady had no idea what a pint was even though it's in their system as such. Like, whatever your job has going on, you can Google to make sure you do your job efficiently. Now, I know she may not care about her job like that, but at least care about looking stupid. Just loud and wrong. Being ignorant is not a badge of honor. She looked about early 30, if she could read the register, then she could read some knowledge. Mind you, I know everybody doesn't know measurements, but if it's your job to know a bit, then learn a lil something.

Should be called Bottoms Bar-B-Q. I usually don't give bad reviews but this place was the absolute worst. We walked in it was hot. Their air conditioning stopped working. They probably should have closed. The bathroom was blocked off and the staff were very rude. They were hot and hateful. The location was unclean. We had seen reviews for Tops online and it was recommended by some people from the Food Network. I had the pulled pork nachos and my partner had a Cheese Burger. I was very hungry but the first bite immediately put a rumble in my belly. The B-B-Q flavor itself was mediocre at best and not very strong. My body immediately said nope but the bathrooms were closed. I recommend Tops only if you are trying to lose weight or need an excuse to have some alone time on the toilet. There are surely tons better BBQ options then this in Memphis.

I live in Austin and I know that there is a big debate about who's bbq is the best in the land. Well, let me tell you it's not this place at least. I got the pork shoulder as this is supposedly the pork capital of the bbq world. Sadly disappointed. First: The meager 4-5oz of pork was cold and dry, something I would never expect from a pork shoulder. Second: wasn't smoked at all or seasoned for that matter. The potato salad was mediocre at best and the only saving grace was the baked beans (had bacon). Third: the price $12.08 with a tea just doesn't make sense for the amount and quality you get. Tops isn't top.
