Menlo Tavern — Restaurant in Menlo Park

Took my fiance here for her 30th birthday (and long overdue review). Short version, absolutely recommend! Long version: It was a nearly empty Thursday night, and I already knew it was going to be a perfect night! The restaurant is elegant (to me). I'm no fine dining, French Laundry enthusiast, smugly rich kind of guy. The lighting was perfectly between bright and romantically dim. Very clean and tables are spaced out nicely! The staff is super nice, accommodating, yet not overbearing. My fiance and I barely ever noticed that our waters or glasses of wine were filled, which truly made us feel separated from the world, yet served. Kudos to the serving/front staff! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the special lamb chops and she had the filet. We paired our meal with a cabernet that went excellently with the food. We still talk about the meal over a month later. In fact, we want to go back to try the Tuesday night fried chicken! We cannot wait...

Food was good & the meager staff was pleasant. Lovely, large outdoor courtyard for dining. Fortunately, we were there to catch up w/ family, so it didn't matter that lunch took 2.5 hrs (!). Apparently they have trouble staffing the place b/c waiters & other staff have to live far away, due to gargantuan real estate prices in the area. This is the second time I have visited Menlo Grill and it was a last minute call for dinner on Thanksgiving. I was thrilled that it has a nice (but small) selection of vegan selections (had to ask to remove the cheese on my salad) but it was all very good. The service was excellent and friendly.
