Yamato Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Menomonie

By far, the best dining in Menomonie. The chef and his family and staff absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Folks, I'm an Asian food freak. I was recently in Thailand, which is regarded as one of the foodie capitals of the world. This place absolutely gets with the overseas flavor and authentic tastes of the cuisine they offer compared to my overseas experience.

Food is stellar. Meats are tender and perfectly cooked, excellent cuts as well. The Tempura shrimp was buttery smooth and crisp textured. Even the deep-fried broccoli was awesome. Their wontons were sweet, crisp, and light. The Sakura roll was a treat, crab meat, and all. Sweet sticky rice. The Wasabi was potent and hung around.

I could write a book here. The atmosphere was modern but not minimal. Their sushi bar bar none the best in the area for western Wisconsin. Service was fast efficient and extremely friendly.

Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Parking is efficient and plenty. It was packed in here for a Thursday in town.

Came on a beautiful Sunday evening. Tables eventually became about half full. There was only 1 waiter who was new. No complaints he was doing his best. The menu is out of date and can be misleading. We question a few of the items and 2 of it was not made anymore. The pictures were professional but misleading as when the dishes came out it was not it. We ordered a couple a couple appetizers. The gyzoba was lukewarm, but I’ve had worse. The beef negimaki was a let down. The ends were very cooled. It’s vegetables wrapped in tender beef n chopped into something like sushi rolls. The middle parts were hot but the ends had a startling temperature difference. Ordered 2 sushi rolls plus 1 hand roll. It was satisfactory. Ordered 1 hibachi steak dinner. The steak temperature was cooled off. As if they cooked it first n left it while cooking the rest of the food. Over the service was 4/5 but the food 3/5. The environment is 4/5. We came in for our first (and last) time tonight. Our waiter was a young guy with short, curly, dark hair. He was very much in a hurry, didn’t really listen to our order, and never wrote anything down. He came back with our appetizers and then our meal. He brought my friends meal out with noodles when she asked for fried rice. Wrong. He brought the rice, but it was white rice. Wrong. He finally brought her fried rice. The hibachi dinner comes with soup and a salad. She got neither and she would have told him sooner, but he NOT ONCE checked in on us. Instead, he went to all the tables around us, never even taking a glance in our direction. He never asked how the food was or if we needed anything, even when both of our glasses were empty.
