After much anticipation as the owners renovated the property and prepared their brews, Iattended the grand opening for Zymurgy Brewing on December 1, 2018, and was not disappointed in the least with the way that the brewery has come together.
Located in an old auto repair facility, Zymurgy has a cozy, familiar feel immediately upon arrival. The parking lot is spacious but not sprawling and empty. The owners have obviously put a lot of time, energy, and thought into the experience, from arrival to ordering to sitting and enjoying the atmosphere and company. The interior is clean, well laid out, and there are plenty of places to sit and games to play (including a pool table and several dart boards).
Now to the drinks... There are a variety of options for everyone to enjoy. I will start by admitting that I do not drink alcohol, so I cannot speak to the taste and quality of the beer, but I can also happily confirm that my lack of beer in now way inhibited my enjoyment. I was able to order a home-brewed kombucha, made with a variety of intentional ingredients (see the photo attached to this review for more information). The drink was flavorful and well-carbonated through the natural fermentation process. The staff who served me (including the owners), were extremely friendly and polite, offering a detailed explanation of each option and background on the process.
If there was one word to describe the vibe I felt at Zymurgy, it would be passion. You can see, hear, feel, and taste the passion that the owners and their staff have for their craft and for the brewery.
I would highly recommend that you make a stop by Zymurgy if you happen to find yourself in the Menomonie area. They are a brewery to watch and experience,...
Read moreStopped in on my way through town and was impressed by all the beers here that are worth trying. Grabbed one with my hop passport (that is supposed to be free) and they made it a $ off promo instead. So essentially, they can charge whatever they want for that beer so you aren’t getting a deal at all. That and there was a lot of nickel and diming with the off sale beer I bought. On top of that the “auto tip” prompt is super obnoxious, especially considering that it was based off of all the off sale beer, rather than just the one that I was actually served. Essentially frustrated by about a $20-30 swing that makes an impact to the customer, but doesn’t really benefit the business (so why do it?). I’ve never seen a brewery pinching pennies before… usually they’re focused on repeat business. Enjoyed the beer but will not be returning on my way...
Read moreMaking the best of covid and quarantine, Zymurgy has a broad selection of beer for take-away (crowlers) or drink-in at their distanced tables. When the weather is nice, it is great to sit out on their new patio. Zymurgy's strength is its willingness to try something - like aging a beer in a wine or bourbon barrel. This quest for new has given them some great flavored beers - if they have it still ask for 'Thorzul', an aged beer. Another positive is having their house made non-alcoholic ginger-beer (my wife's favorite) on tap for children and non-beer drinkers. Jon and Chelsea Lynn brought (pre-covid times) musicians, comedians, and informational speakers into their brewery. Community groups like the Menomonie Ukulele Group and others could also meet there. Don't let the renovated gas station put you off...the atmosphere is welcoming...
