My husband & I stopped by Saturday evening, Memorial Day weekend to enjoy a cocktail at the bar, this was our 3rd attempt to visit since they opened. Our 1st visit, they were still new and figuring things out, we had dinner and the food was good, not impressive, but good; the service was poor, they appeared to have been short staffed in servers. It happens. The 2nd visit we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table & decided to sit at the bar; the bartender never acknowledged us as they continued to help everyone around us as we just sat patiently. Nothing. We ended up just taking up space. Once we were seated at our table we found that the food was absolutely delicious with great presentation but service, although super friendly, it still lagged as they were training new staff. Again, it happens? Our 3rd visit, and years later, we decided to give Lucky's another try and stopped in for a cocktail & to hopefully run into old friends that were regulars at another recently closed local establishment. The bar was a mess. Dishes piled up as if they just served a 7 course meal to at least 5 people. I truly have never seen so many dirty dishes at a bar before, did they just host a large event in the front dining room? The bar was full with the exception of the empty seats that were being used to store dirty dishes. The restaurant appeared empty and it was only 7:40pm. When the bartender glanced at us, I asked which seats would be the best to sit at since it was apparent those sits were not getting cleared anytime soon, his response was, "well, you will just have to wait". Do I dare say it, was he being snarky? It would have been nice to have been greeted with a simple, "welcome to Lucky's", or "sorry about the dishes, it will be just a moment"; after all we never met him before, so why the attitude? We chose the 2 cleanest spots and moved a few glasses and food remains out of the way adding to the dish pile and decided to wait. The bartender seemed to be making his way toward us & when he was about to take our order he turned quickly to take another food order from 2 other individuals who had already been there enjoying cocktails. He entered and cashed a few more checks out, hovering by us, and serving other patrons drinks. To be fair, there was a 2nd server that was preparing drinks for the restaurant side, so he was not overwhelmed and certainly not alone to prepare drinks for the entire restaurant. Lucky's also appeared to have 2-4 individuals hanging out at the hostess station, they could have been easily recruited to assist with clean up. It was not a busy place. 15 minutes later after dealing with the same snobbish service, I asked my husband how much longer we should wait and deal with these shenanigans, he suggested 5 minutes. 8 minutes later we left. Dirty dishes, still there. The only positive outcome was that we did meet a very nice couple next to us and with the extra time on my hands I spoiled myself with some online shopping and ordered needed items for our upcoming trip to Spain. The saddest part is that I only wanted a simple mixed drink & my husband to try a new beer on tap. Living in the neighborhood just east of the restaurant for over 30 years, it would have been nice to have been able to make this a regular stop for us. Once we left, we went a few blocks away to another restaurant on Jolly Road; here we were greeted instantly by the bartender, from a distance, with a big smile, and we had barely made it through the door. Just what we needed after being treated so poorly by the...
Read moreI am leaving this review not as a complaint but as a warning to anyone with celiac disease/gluten intolerances and other dietary allergies and restrictions. This is not a bad establishment and the employees were great, but rather the situation I was in is due to a lack of education about food allergies and allergy protocols in the kitchen. I have eaten here multiple times and wait staff has always been patient and understanding when I order. I ask for a gluten free menu which normally is a single page, and each time I have ordered a plain grilled chicken breast and bake sweet potato and have never been sick afterwards. However, last night at this location when asked for a menu, I was provided a 3 page menu of option. I was delighted, thinking they had updated their recipes and made more of their menu “gluten friendly”. I understand it is impossible to guarantee a 100% gluten free meal in any restaurant setting, and again am appreciate of how communicative the wait staff have been. Last night I ordered the glazed pork chops off of this new menu and informed the kitchen it was for a gluten allergy. When my order came out, it looked delicious however I was cautious of the glaze it came with. I asked the wait staff to re-check with the kitchen that all precautions possible had been made to avoid any cross-contact in my dish. A staff member came out from the kitchen to discuss the ingredients with me, which I very much appreciate it. I was expecting to just be reassured about how my food was processed. I was not expecting to be told that the glaze on the pork chops “included WHEAT but not wheat flour”. For anyone who does not know, wheat in any form is NOT gluten free and is what would cause anyone with celiac or allergies to become severely sick and have a reaction. I informed this staff member of this error and they politely apologized and offered to make me a different meal but at that point, my trust was gone. Again, I don’t think the staff did anything wrong and I am so appreciative of the time they took to communicate with me about this issue. But I do believe they need more strict allergy protocol training and their gluten free menu items need to be reevaluated. Anything containing wheat is NOT gluten free! Again, if you are gluten free for any reason, be cautious and communicative when...
Read moreI have now been here twice and would say it is okay. I went for the first time with my husband and toddler on a Saturday around 4pm. We were seated quickly and at first we’re satisfied with our server. After she brought our food out (which came quickly) we didn’t see her again for at least 20 minutes if not 30. When she came back when we were all finished and waiting to ask for boxes, she smelled strongly of cigarettes. Food was good overall that time. My husband got the filets mignon and fries and liked it. My toddler got Mac and cheese and likes it as well. I did not care too much for mine. I got the lobster and shrimp pasta. The noodles were overcooked and mushy and the lobster was overcooked and chewy. I did not care for the sauce either. I did like the Caesar salad though. Perfect combo of romaine to dressing. The second time I went with a friend and 3 young kids on a Friday around 11:30am. We were seated quickly but waited about 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us. This time the food took quite awhile. It took probably 30-40 minutes to arrive. As we were waiting my toddler spilled her milk in the floor and it took my forever to find any server to ask for something to clean it up. After I was eventually able to clean it up myself, our server never asked if I wanted another milk (I would have happily paid for it) and by the time I thought to ask she had disappeared. Food was mostly good this time as well. The Rachel sandwich was huge, but they did forget the thousand island on both orders. Kids pizza and Mac and cheese were also huge and the kids liked them. The kids grilled cheese was pretty bad. A single slice of cheap looking cheese on each slice of bread barely melted on hard bread. I am not sure if we will be back or not, but time will tell. Prices are very good and menu is large with quite a bit of variety. I am giving it a three for the food, but service is definitely...
