Tantay — Restaurant in Meridian Charter Township

I am glad this restaurant finally opened and we now have a local option for one of the tastiest cuisines in the world. The food is exquisite and the staff charming and attentive. I think that because they opened recently, the setting is not greatly produced or the selection of dishes extensive. But, everything I saw and tasted I think was done well. I went for dinner with my elementary-school-age daughters and they enjoyed the experience. We met and talked to José, the owner. His passion and care for his craft was evident. My first time visiting Tantay and it was as delicious as I expected. We ordered the red snapper ceviche, which was outstanding, super fresh and very flavorful. We also enjoyed the chicken stirfry, which had a wonderful mix of flavors and textures, and the chicken was really wonderful. The owner (who is so pleasant and excited to finally have his own brick and mortar restaurant), surprised us with a Peruvian deep-fried dessert made out of sweet potatoes and orange zest. Picked up to-go for lunch, food taste & quality was excellent and staff was lovely. My only small note would be that the beef stir fry ingredients come in big pieces, which was very challenging to eat out of the container with plastic silverware - I ended up eating the soup for lunch and bringing the stir fry home for dinner where I cut everything into bite size pieces and it was much easier to eat - but that’s not a criticism, more a personal preference!
