Googled dive bars in Mesa, this one was first on the list. Since no one has named their child Kay since the 60's, I was expecting an older crowd. Website stated Karaoke on Saturday nights so I go check it out. I'm 59yo, white, 5'5" with no history of violence and no criminal record. Upon entering, I'm approached by an African American bouncer that looks like he just broke out of Rikers, ID's me and pats me down for a weapon. The crowd consisted of early to middle aged Mexicans and African Americans that looked like career criminals. I doubt there was one person who was not a felon. No Karaoke, DJ playing gangster rap. What type of establishment considers someone like me a potential threat, when they cater to that kind of patrons. Unless this is already your go to hang out, save yourself the harassment and move on to the next place. Gotta ask yourself, why is a little bar in Mesa ok with operating under the pretence that having to pat down patrons. Read moreThe parking lot is in the back and it felt poorly lit and cramped. Inside was a good crowd for their Saturday night karaoke. A couple of pool tables were in use and a bit in the way. I saw two bartenders and they were very busy. It took a long time to get their attention but they were very nice when they finally made it to us. I wouldn't call this place the cleanest place but I've seen worse.
I was very much a visitor to this bar. I didn't feel like I fit in and that tarnished the whole experience. Almost all of the people there seemed to know each other so I suspect if you're one of the regulars you really like this place.
Go there if you looking for a crowd to hang out with. Probably not a good place for a Saturday night group...
