Starz American Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Mesa

I stopped at this place on a Sunday afternoon about 130. Thought I’d get a bite to eat and cocktail. This is one of the most depressing, tired, dive bars I have been to in a long time. I love dive bars, don’t get me wrong ,been going to them my whole adult life. So I walk in and the bar is in the center of the room,a big circular bar, so I’m like OK cool, I sit the bar. The bar top is so high I felt like a child in a booster seat. They should either have higher barstools or shorter bar top. The bartender is talking to one of her friends or maybe it was a customer, not sure. I sat there for a few minutes. She never once acknowledged me. I had to call her over and ask her if I could order a drink and get a menu. She says OK sure. She takes my drink order, then she takes another drink order and makes their drinks before mine!? Really?!! I’m thinking to myself, “oh my gosh, I can’t believe this, is she just a hater of women or what? I’m 58 years old, she’s maybe 20-30, I don’t know, but really? The drink wasn’t bad I’ll give her that, and she took my food order. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with a side salad. The chicken sandwich wasn’t bad except it was served on hamburger bun that seemed like it came right out of the package. The salad, well was a salad. Then I had to ask her for my check because she never came back to check on me. I think she did ask me how everything was prior, but anyway I left her a $6 tip on just under a $22 bill because I can’t, being a former server and bartender, leave a bad tip no matter how bad the service. This girl has no business being in the service industry. She walked around like she was at home in her PJ’s and it seemed like she’d rather be anyplace else but where she was. I was a server and a bartender for years, and when someone would sit at my bar, the first thing I would do is acknowledge them. If I was busy, I would tell them "I’ll be right with you”. People don’t like to be ignored. When I go into a place and am spending money, I don’t like to be treated like I’m invisible. Kim I hope you read this...

My wife and I were looking for a fun bar restaurant to get out and dance at a Halloween party. We could not have picked a better place than STARS BAR! From the very start we were extremely impressed as we walked in, the place was packed so we found ourselves near the back thinking we were too late to find any good seats. We were greeted by a couple patrons who cleared their table and welcomed us in with open arms. These two guys ended up being the owner, Dale and his best friend. As Dales friend told us, Dale is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. Well that played out to be very very true. The waitress, the band, the food, the service was nearly the best experience we’ve ever had. We go out to A LOT of these types of places to see live music and STARS BAR was outstanding in every category. We will not only be back to STARS but cannot wait to see so much more they have to offer, such as great breakfast specials and all you can eat Friday night fish fry. We are from Wisconsin and this place just felt like a classic home town bar with the patrons being so friendly, real and very happy to be with all of their long time friends. Night ended with hugs and high fives with the owner and friends. We want to thank the entire staff for an amazing first visit...

Ok wow, I have drive past this bar for almost 2 years and we just ate inside and I’m already ready to return. What a gem! If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast and breakfast cocktail this IS the place. (They do offer lunch and dinner also) I am so glad we decided to eat here. I ordered a michelada and biscuits and gravy, pancakes for my kids, and steak&eggs for my husband. BEST MEAL EVER. The cook (his name is Dave) was on a roll in the kitchen and his music taste was awesome, I heard him singing Tom petty which is always my karaoke go-to. He cooked our food perfect, best biscuits I’ve had in a LONG time. I kept stealing bites of my husbands steak because he couldn’t stop talking about how perfect it was cooked (medium rare). The o’briens potatoes omg I ordered another side of them because we couldn’t stop eating them. We stayed even longer playing pool and darts and we just totally set the tone for a fun, easy Saturday just by dining here. We can’t wait to return for that patty melt I saw...
