Tacos & Hot Dogs (resturant) Los Mayitos — Restaurant in Mesa

Have you ever had an experience that makes you question things that you've experienced in your past? Eating here was just that for me. Bare with me as this is going to be a lengthy review.

I lived in Tucson for a few years quite a while ago and moved away from the southwest and the cuisine found in the region. One of the things I enjoyed eating while living there were the occasional Sonoran Dogs. I always thought they were interesting and never had a bad one no matter where I got it from.

Fast forward 15 years and I'm visiting friends in Phoenix and I wanted to find a place nearby to get a Sonoran Dog for old time sake. I did a quick search and happened to come across Tacos & Hot Dogs Los Mayitos.

The restaurant has the look and feel of a Taqueria that you would find in South Texas. The young lady that helped us out was nice and the atmosphere was nice. They had music playing and it took me back to a lot of memories of being at work and hearing Por Chicago Andamos or Me Acostumbre A Lo Bueno playing as I walked around.

I had the traditional Sonoran Dog and the Dogo Embarazado just to try something new. Let me tell you that the Sonoran Dogs I got here were the ABSOLUTE BEST that I have ever had. I would like to think of myself as a connoisseur of hot dogs and this was leaps and bounds beyond anything I've ever had. The bread was toasted to perfection, the perfect ratio of condiments to meat, and the flavor of the hotdogs were outstanding. Oh and pro tip, go to the condiment bar and get some of the potato chips to put on top of the hotdogs. That takes it to a new level.

I really cannot say enough good things about my experience here. The waitress was outstanding and the only thing that was better than her was the food. If I didn't live 828 away, I would be here every week to eat. Google needs to add an option for more than 5-stars, Tacos & Hot Dogs Los Mayitos definitely deserves more based on my experience. I am trying not to give 5 stars anymore as I am reserving that for establishments that blow my mind, but this is an exception right here. The food is incredibly flavored. Even the simple asado tacos taste like they came right off my grill in the back yard. Their salsas complement this perfectly. The service is phenomenal, they make general conversation with you instead of taking your order and dismissing you as another random customer. The atmosphere is less than desirable but I'm not sure if want tacos this good from a flashy place, that just wouldn't make sense to me. If you're in the area, try this place. I have been to many taco places throughout the valley and can confirm this is the best in the east...

This was my first trip to Tacos & Hot Dogs Los Mayitos. The young woman working the counter was friendly, she went over the menu with me and made recommendations. I placed a takeout order of 4 tacos: 2 quesabirria, 1 carne asada, and 1 al pastor. Overall the tacos were all very good but the quesabirria might be the best birria tacos in the East Valley. I also had a large watermelon aguas frescas and it was fantastic. This place doesn’t look like much from the outside or inside but my first visit was great. I want to visit again soon so that I can see if they are consistently turning out...
