Today we visited LAMA restaurant and were not disappointed but first I would like to tell you about Peruvian cuisine, it’s not Mexican! Peruvian cuisine is a vibrant fusion of indigenous ingredients, Spanish, African, and Asian influences. Some key facts about Peruvian food include its diverse use of potatoes (originating from Peru), the iconic dish ceviche (citrus-marinated raw fish), the spicy pepper paste called aji, and the popularity of dishes like lomo saltado (stir-fried beef) and causa (potato-based dish). Peru is also famous for its quinoa and the unique drink Pisco, a grape-based brandy used in the classic cocktail, Pisco Sour. There is quite a large influence of Japanese and Chinese in Peru. My wife and I both ordered Saltado, with red onions, tomatoes, soy sauce, french fries, rice and chicken. It was quite good, all the ingredients were fresh. My wife ordered an Inca Cola that is like yellow and green in color and tastes like a vanilla cream soda. Empanadas, which we did not order, are similar to a turnover, but not sweet. The ingredients inside usually is a meat, potatoes, and some spices. Please understand that Spanish is their primary language but the younger guy, Brian, has a translator app. He does speak some English and being young, he’ll probably be more proficient in a few months. Think of it as visiting another country while in Mesquite. My 95 year old mother enjoyed the visit, and now has opened her mind to a different ethnic food. I’ve attached a few photos for you to look at. We are definitely returning.

I have been to Peru and was not sure which aspects of the cuisine this restaurant would showcase. The food was absolutely delicious with something for everyone and different from what I ate in Peru because the cuisine is so vast. If I were to take my 89 year old mother-in-law, the chicken empanada would be perfect as it is not spicy, but rather has a more subtle seasoning with a very accessible chimichurri sauce with it. I also ordered the ceviche which is spicy, as it should be, and was served with sweet potato, parched corn and hominy.

The pastry for the empanadas was a very flaky, buttery, laminated dough and Paul Hollywood could not have found fault with it. Truly exceptional. My husband got a beef main course that was also delicious. I was surprised by the variety on the menu and plan to return.

Currently, I believe their prices are very low for the quality of their ingredients and if I were in their shoes, I would raise prices.

I know it is a small detail, but I love that they use metal cutlery and cloth napkins rather than contribute to our landfills. 3 delicious dishes only came to $40.

The location is not obvious, you have to walk down a sidewalk between 2 medical buildings to find...

I'm still dreaming about the flavors I experienced at Lama Peruvian Cuisine. From the moment we walked in, the vibrant atmosphere and aroma of Peruvian cuisine had us excited for a culinary adventure. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive, guiding us through the menu with ease.

The standout dish was undoubtedly the Lomo Saltado - tender beef strips, crispy potatoes, and a hint of soy sauce all combined in a harmonious balance of flavors. We enjoyed the octopus, calamari, anticucho. And the Cevice... oh, the ceviche! So fresh and full of flavor! You also must try the flan and the lucuma ice-cream. What truly sets apart is the authenticity and passion that shines through in every dish. Each bite transported us to the heart of Peruvian culture. If you're a foodie or just looking for a new culinary experience Lama Peruvian Cuisine is a must-visit destination. The owners are suoer nice and attentive always with a smile. Five stars isn't enough - I'd give it ten stars if I could! We will...

Dine in, first time here. The menu was very unclear about what you’re getting. My husband can’t eat rice, and everything came with rice! We should be able to sub potatoes or something. My order was forgotten, which is not a really big deal, but they should have offered some type of compensation. I assumed as a dinner plate the chicken and fried rice meant Peruvian chicken AND fried rice, but it was fried rice WITH chicken pieces in it. The flavor was good and it was hot, but just fried rice with 3 slices of fried plantain. NOT my idea of a dinner. My husband had Saltado, tenderloin with tomatoes and peppers which was tough and lukewarm and pretty small. My sister’s salad, which she understood from the waiter was enough for a dinner, was basically a side salad. If you want an actual dinner, you’ll need to order a salad and an appetizer with your meal. It’s basically a small diner. They should think about some more decorations. I hope they revise their menu and keep trying.

If you're anywhere near Mesquite, LAMA is an absolute gem you don't want to miss. We've become loyal clients — the food is consistently incredible. So far, we’ve tried the Green Pasta with Steak, Peruvian Chaufa Fried Rice, Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos, Tres Ceviches, and the Grilled Octopus — which is my personal favorite. The octopus was perfectly grilled: tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can tell everything is made fresh to order — nothing frozen, just high-quality ingredients and bold, rich flavors. The staff is exceptional — warm, welcoming, and passionate about sharing Peruvian cuisine. They take the time to explain the dishes and ensure you feel right at home. We can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu. If you’re looking for fresh, flavorful food and a friendly, authentic atmosphere, LAMA is a must-try. Highly recommended!
