Today we visited LAMA restaurant and were not disappointed but first I would like to tell you about Peruvian cuisine, it’s not Mexican! Peruvian cuisine is a vibrant fusion of indigenous ingredients, Spanish, African, and Asian influences. Some key facts about Peruvian food include its diverse use of potatoes (originating from Peru), the iconic dish ceviche (citrus-marinated raw fish), the spicy pepper paste called aji, and the popularity of dishes like lomo saltado (stir-fried beef) and causa (potato-based dish). Peru is also famous for its quinoa and the unique drink Pisco, a grape-based brandy used in the classic cocktail, Pisco Sour. There is quite a large influence of Japanese and Chinese in Peru. My wife and I both ordered Saltado, with red onions, tomatoes, soy sauce, french fries, rice and chicken. It was quite good, all the ingredients were fresh. My wife ordered an Inca Cola that is like yellow and green in color and tastes like a vanilla cream soda. Empanadas, which we did not order, are similar to a turnover, but not sweet. The ingredients inside usually is a meat, potatoes, and some spices. Please understand that Spanish is their primary language but the younger guy, Brian, has a translator app. He does speak some English and being young, he’ll probably be more proficient in a few months. Think of it as visiting another country while in Mesquite. My 95 year old mother enjoyed the visit, and now has opened her mind to a different ethnic food. I’ve attached a few photos for you to look at. We are definitely returning.
12 May 24. A wonderful Mother’s Day Meal, the people at “what’s happening Mesquite on Facebook” didn’t want it published. Try doing that here. We come here often and the service, food and freshness is...
Read moreI have been to Peru and was not sure which aspects of the cuisine this restaurant would showcase. The food was absolutely delicious with something for everyone and different from what I ate in Peru because the cuisine is so vast. If I were to take my 89 year old mother-in-law, the chicken empanada would be perfect as it is not spicy, but rather has a more subtle seasoning with a very accessible chimichurri sauce with it. I also ordered the ceviche which is spicy, as it should be, and was served with sweet potato, parched corn and hominy.
The pastry for the empanadas was a very flaky, buttery, laminated dough and Paul Hollywood could not have found fault with it. Truly exceptional. My husband got a beef main course that was also delicious. I was surprised by the variety on the menu and plan to return.
Currently, I believe their prices are very low for the quality of their ingredients and if I were in their shoes, I would raise prices.
I know it is a small detail, but I love that they use metal cutlery and cloth napkins rather than contribute to our landfills. 3 delicious dishes only came to $40.
The location is not obvious, you have to walk down a sidewalk between 2 medical buildings to find...
