Had a sushi craving (which happens pretty often) and I found Fusha because it was on the way home from running errands. We ordered for pick up via Seamless at around 5 on a Saturday and the quoted wait time was 20-30 minutes.
I had the Sushi and Sashimi for 1 (8 pieces sushi - 2 each of salmon, tuna, white tuna, and yellowtail; 12 pieces sashimi - 3 each of yellowtail, salmon, tuna, and striped bass; w. spicy tuna roll). I REALLY appreciated that they actually gave fish for the sushi pieces. A lot of other sushi spots try to play you and give you the rubbery shrimp or the egg and count those each as a piece. The sushi and sashimi were great. My favorite was the yellowtail, which they topped with some sort of green onion concoction. But the spicy tuna tasted a little off. It didn't go bad I don't think, but it just had this odd sweet taste to it. I really thought I'd finish everything but I actually had a few pieces leftover that I had to save for the next day.
My husband had the Spicy Trio Roll (Spicy tuna & avocado / spicy salmon & avocado / spicy yellowtail & avocado) and the Two Thumbs Up roll (Soft shell crab tempura, spicy tuna, avocado & roe, wrapped in a soybean nori w. spicy eel sauce). I normally am not a fan of spicy rolls but I liked the way they made them here - the fish wasn't chopped to a paste, and there were still chunks of fish in it, so that you could actually taste it. It was the same situation for the spicy tuna and the two thumbs up roll with the strange sweetness to it.
Not sure if I'd order again, just because there wasn't anything super special that stood out (and it's a bit far from where we live), but if you do decide to order, just avoid...

Until now, the best uni I've enjoyed has been in San Francisco - fresh, sweet and imaginatively served. It is difficult to accept Metuchen, NJ, is the new uni capital. I'm serious. I've never enjoyed better uni. I marveled at the presentation, as well. My hope is enough of us converge on Metuchen to not only keep Fusha alive, but pricey uni available on the daily menu. So often new restaurants offer top provisions only to find the community won't support the overhead. Fusha just opened. This is my call to make this your uni destination before Fusha finds it no longer can afford to carry it.
Wasabi seed is rare and expensive. There is some hope it will take root in gardens of Oregon and become more generally available. Last night, in Metuchen, NJ, the uni was served with wasabi seed, over ice, in a sea urchin shell adorned ala feng shui. Incredible. I wanted to return again, today, for breakfast, but they tell me I ate out their entire allotment of uni for the weekend.
You've heard of "Must see." Fusha Asian Bistro is "Must experience." Please join me in keeping uni on the menu and putting Metuchen on...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this restaurant for years and have always recommended it to friends. Unfortunately, the way they treated one of my very good friends recently was unacceptable.
The restaurant clearly states it closes at 9:30. My friend arrived well before that and was told twice in a short span by a rude waiter that they were closing soon. Even after my friend politely responded that they’d be wrapping up shortly, the waiter came back again and was obnoxious about it, saying they were closing as if he was trying to kick them out.
This is not how you treat customers, especially loyal ones. If your kitchen has a cutoff for last orders, communicate that clearly and politely. Don’t harass people while they’re still well within posted hours.
The experience left a really bad taste and reflects poorly on the management and staff. I can’t recommend a place that thinks it’s okay to treat paying customers like an inconvenience. If you care about good service and being treated with respect,...
