I have mixed feelings about this place. I've been going here semi-frequently for about two years, and their cafe-related quality primarily relies on who is working. They have great coffee and a large tea selection. They only serve food, however, until 1130am, and what they do serve is very simple. I have no problems with simplicity, but I'm vegan and have had a very odd time with their tofu scramble. The first few times (about a year ago) I tried their tofu scramble a la carte and it was AMAZING. I recently ordered the full breakfast (comes with eggs and toast) which is $6 on the menu - I of course replaced the eggs with tofu scramble and they proceeded to, without mention of this by mouth or on the menu, charge me the $6 plus a la carte price of the tofu scramble. I thought okay, that isn't like the most ridiculous thing ever, so whatever. It was really bad though and I instantly regretted it, which is unfortunate because I love the atmosphere of the place as well as their deli sandwiches and vegan cookies. They have so many different tea and coffee options (as well as wine and alcohol, I suppose), but I will not be returning hungry. I'd recommend food there if you eat eggs, though, because I've heard good things about their non-vegan food. In general, I will be sticking to tea and...

Excellent coffee shop for the locals. We stopped by after our lunch for a coffee and small sweet.

The main room has quite a bit of seating, local art for sale on the walls, board games to borrow, some books and an old piano.

They have full coffee and tea along with the ability to buy beans. The folks behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. Some small pastries/cookies/chocolate to go along with the caffeine.

Available are small cold sandwiches and sides if you are a little more hungry. They also have coffee and coffee accessories to buy.

In addition to the wonderful caffeine choices, there is also a small but well stocked wine shop and a small liquor store in the very back. Wine-wise, you would be hard pressed to walk away with something good, or local, or maybe that you have not heard of before (or all three). The liquor store has a lot of the usual items being so small, but all major categories are represented. Finally, they have a small number of different bitters and amaros.

All-in-all, a great to...

I’m kind of shocked at what I saw today. During street fair no less. So there was this guy, “black” as if it should matter, and he came into the place and was so sweet, nice, patient.

And this little black haired white girl goes off on him. Like unprovoked, out of the blue, why is this happening. At first it was playful and I was like they know each other thats playful enough, but then she starts going off on him for every little thing he asks about. It’s making me tear up just from thinking about it because he just laughed it off, but she was nasty and rude.

I have been in this community for years and on men’s mental health month, and to the only black guy in the place. She treated him like that. Oh and the owner was in ear shot and said NOTHING. I don’t even know if the guy knows that.

Wow...

The food and coffee is always good here. They have regular and rotating pastries, so you can have your old standby, or try something different (the pistachio cardamom roll is my favorite!). The layout is a bit odd, but easy to figure out. Staff is friendly and helpful. But here’s my biggest issue: it takes around 20 minutes to get just a breakfast burrito. It’s not that big or complicated (see picture). It’s a delicious burrito, don’t get me wrong, but it shouldn’t take that long even on a busy day. It’s just eggs, cheese, salsa, tortilla. Even if the eggs are being cooked to order, ten minutes tops. Please work on this, standing around that small space for that long gets awkward and uncomfortable very quick.

A hardy thank you to Jess and the Emporium crew for making our anniversary special! The take you did on making your lemon lavender shortbread cookie into a cake was phenomenal. I will remember it for lifetimes to come. The flavor is delicious, the icing is spectacular and the taste is beyond this world. I also have to mention the customer service. The team there is always so helpful and nice on any day you visit. But, picking up the cake was such a sweet experience, you all did a great job and made me feel special. My husband and I are eternally grateful for you all. 💖
