When ordering my food, the waiter was very condescending towards me. I was hoping to get a specific meal, but to my disappointment they were out, so in hopes of not taking a long time, I ordered what was right under it. This meal item was steak and eggs. I am not a steak fan, nor am I an egg fan, but I was trying to be quick, as I have social anxiety, and ordering from a menu can be difficult for me. When prompted with how I wanted my steak cooked I said “Well-done”, which proves what I said earlier about me not knowing much about steak. After this statement, the wait staff looked at me in shock, and said “excuse me?”. They then proceeded to go on about how the steak was premium, and that well-done would not be ok at all. They went on about the price of the steak, and how it was of high quality. This made me feel very bad, and they treated me like I was lacking very important knowledge. If you looked at me you would see I am a college student with little culinary knowledge, so a quick correction would have been appropriate. I was looking through the menu in hopes of finding something maybe a little more suitable for my taste, when they said they would fix me up with a medium-rare steak. I wasn’t really fond of this idea, but I went with it anyway. I didn’t want to make this anymore uncomfortable for me or my group. They then asked me how I wanted my eggs, and in fear of getting reprimanded I just went with what they suggested. This totally ruined the meal for me and my group, and it should’ve been a special dinner for us. After that, my brother’s girlfriend ordered a piece of pie, and then my brother asked for a coffee along with it. Instead of saying “okay”, this same staff member said “what do you say when you ask something of someone?”. My brother didn’t understand, so he repeated the coffee request. After the wait staff repeated their reply again, my brother just changed his mind and said “You know what, I’m okay. Thanks.”

I will give the cooks credit by saying the food was relatively good. Even though I am not a big fan of what I ordered, the taste was good. The service was not good at all.

I don’t understand how this treatment of customers is acceptable. I have worked in the food industry for years, and I have always been taught to treat the customer with the utmost respect and dignity. We were not treated this way at all. I understand that maybe this person was going through something in their life, so I wish them the best, but it also seemed like this person just had a unique/hurtful personality as a server. I would recommend speaking with your staff on how you treat your customers, and reinforce the idea of being kind to all. It is important to show love to people, even if you assume that they are not as smart as you. They are just as important in this world. I pray that this server will realize what they did, and I hope that they don’t treat others how they treated our group. We had been to this restaurant before about a year ago and didn’t have any of these problems. I don’t know if there is new management or what, but something needs...

Eating here truly was a disaster in every sense. As a millennial, I do my best to support small businesses. I tip the waitstaff. I understand the challenges of working in the service industry. However, this was unacceptable. A friend and I went for dinner, arriving around 5 PM. I would estimate the restaurant to be about half full. There were two groups of people ahead of us and two behind us - and no hostess. In fact, we did not see her for about 15 minutes, and were eventually seated after about 20 minutes. (No apologies for the wait or anything.) During the dinner rush on a weekend I would expect more staff, but figured this was a fluke.

After looking over our menus for about 15 minutes, we were brought some water and bread rolls by the hostess. We indicated that we were ready to order - but we had still not seen our waitress. To be very clear, this is not a large establishment. Furthermore, she was not the only waitress there.

We were finally able to flag down our waitress, who was not prepared to take our ordered. She left and came back after some time, and we ordered. For full transparency, our order was a burger and some soup.

The soup arrived fairly quickly, to our surprise. However, my friend being polite decided to wait to eat until I was also served my meal. This took almost an hour. It was nearly comical. Being seated directly next to the kitchen, we could hear people working. We could see other tables getting their food. What we did not see, in this entire time of nearly an hour, was our waitress. She did not stop to check in. She did not apologize for the wait. Naturally, my friend's soup was cold by the time I got my food. The burger was passable, though dry. But I was just happy to have food.

Unsurprisingly, flagging down our waitress to get the check took quite some time as well. We were so ready to leave at this point, and just couldn't get out of there. Upon leaving, we did see our waitress - chatting it up with another table (of locals, I'm sure). I believe the reviews that say locals/regulars get different treatment here.

Maybe we just had a particularly bad experience, but I would not recommend this place. Beyond the generally cramped space and loud kitchen, the service was abysmal and the food mediocre.

P.S. If you order lemonade, we're fairly certain it's just lemon juice and water...

If you’re searching for the best breakfast in Yellow Springs, Sunrise Café is a must-visit. Located in the heart of this artistic, hippie-inspired village, this farm-to-table restaurant delivers food that’s both incredibly delicious and good for you. It’s cozy, charming, and everything you want in a small-town brunch spot.

They take pride in fresh, healthy, and organic-inspired ingredients — farm-raised chicken and eggs, nitrate-free bacon, locally sourced produce, and herbs picked fresh from the café’s very own garden out back. Every bite is flavorful, vibrant, and nourishing.

The menu offers seasonal favorites alongside beloved regular staples. Breakfast is served all day, which means you can enjoy fluffy eggs, breakfast sandwiches, and pancakes any time. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Vick Burger — the chef creates a one-of-a-kind burger just for you.

Favorites I personally recommend:

Focaccia bread with olive oil dip – freshly baked and perfectly chewy.

Juicy burgers – made with quality meat that tastes miles better than your average diner.

Hot chocolate – rich, creamy, and a perfect comfort drink after a stroll through town.

Salad - fresh picked tasting. Pair it with the basil gorgonzola for an amazing side item or entree.

They also offer alcoholic brunch cocktails, freshly made desserts, and plenty of vegetarian-friendly options.

Service & Atmosphere: The staff here is outstanding — warm, welcoming, and attentive. The café itself is on the smaller side, so seating is limited, but it adds to the intimate charm. If you’re coming with a large group or visiting during a busy weekend, make a reservation. There’s also a small patio in the back where you can enjoy your meal outdoors.

Final word: If you love fresh local food, healthy brunch options, and the cozy charm of Yellow Springs restaurants, you’ll fall in love with...

Update 5/5/24: Still 5/5! This place is still just as amazing as the last time we came here! One note on the vegan patties, they're good, but they're not like a sausage patty or ground patty, much more of a "18 whole grains," type of texture to it. Quick Ratings: - Huevos Rancheros: A solid start to the day. - Signature Pancake: Fluffy perfection. - Chocolate French Toast: Sweet tooth's dream. - Biscuits and Gravy: Hearty and satisfying. Sunrise has got a real knack for dishing out comfort on a plate. Their breakfast spread hit the spot with its straight-up good eats. First up, the Huevos Rancheros. It's a no-fuss plate: a crisp-edged egg, a heap of savory black beans, and roast potatoes that crackle just right. Spoon on some zesty salsa, a blob of sour cream, and you've got a plate that packs a punch. Their Signature Pancake is a fluffy, crispy-edged wonder. It's big, it's buttery, and it does exactly what you hope a pancake will do – fill you up and make you happy without a lot of fuss. The Chocolate French Toast is for those who like breakfast with a side of dessert. It's rich, but not too heavy, and that powdered sugar on top? Just the right amount of sweet. And you can't skip the Biscuits and Gravy. It's a stick-to-your-ribs kind of dish, with soft biscuits drowning in thick, peppery gravy. It's down-home cooking done right. Each dish at Sunrise Café comes out like it's made by someone who gets why breakfast matters. It's the kind of place that'll have you planning your next visit before you've even left. Sunrise Café is doing breakfast right – simple, tasty, and just plain good.

Enjoyable, I was not disappointed. Good food product with flavor, showing evident dedication in the kitchen. Service was perfect: Carly? was amazing; one of those intuitive, prompt, effortlessly pleasant servers. Atmosphere is limited merely by demerit of the dive-bar size and dimensions, but they have maximized what they have and it’s comfortable. Food was really good: excellent pancakes with REAL maple syrup (thank you), real farm fresh veggies (not canned), polenta cooked perfectly, sausage was superb, great coffee, flavor was there. Only 4-star because the omelette was a bit lacking in flavor- not quite up to a flavor-in-every-bite experience like Tanks. Nothing major but it’s something you’d imagine Gordon Ramsey critiquing. The polenta had very little flavor- I had to add butter and salt. My Bloody Mary was a bit less than robustly flavored, but I’m not deducting for this- prob just my preference. Wife came here for dinner and said her burger was easily one of the best she’s ever had, and she’s hard to please with her burgers. That visit was 5-star. So when you come, you can expect excellent food product and skillfully prepared dishes from kitchen. Just a little more attention to flavor detail with certain key things, and it’s a cool 5-star. UPDATE The burger game here is AMAZE-BALLS. LIKE WOW. The chips are great. Cock tail, Fleur Delacour, excellent. Burger just needed a touch of salt, but meh. This visit is 5-stars.
